THE PUPPET-MAN
Official Solution

Talk to all characters by name - for example TALK to the BAKER etc. Objects will be left lying around as the other characters go about their business. Wake up and go East, from the village crossroads, to the manor grounds. Enter the manor. Upstairs, take the ladder and leave the manor. In the field West of the signpost drop the ladder and climb the tree. Examine the hollow and jacket and take the silver key. Keep the ladder for later use. Return to the manor and unlock the closet in the lounge. Examine the skeleton and take its key. This key will unlock the door of the village hall which is West of the village green. Enter and examine the goods on the table. Give the shoes to the ballerina. Go the the butcher's shop where there will now be a cleaver. Inside the manor examine the table in the dining room to find a salmon and the shelf in the room where you found the ladder for a glove. Enter the marquee and enter the ring (a circus ring!). Open the cage, enter and drop the salmon inside. After leaving the cage open the door which closes behind you. Go North, West and up into the wagon. Talk to the man. There is a second cage nearby. Drop the ladder and climb on to the top of this cage. Open it, from above, and a bear will lumber out. Follow after it - it has gone after the salmon inside the circus ring - and close the cage door in the ring thereby shutting the bear inside. Go to the second cage - enter it - and examine inside the wooden box. Take the netting. Go into the woods South of the village green and throw the net over the creature which attacks you. Then, use the cleaver to CHOP the CHAIN securing the door of the building. Inside, go up into the loft and examine the nest. Give the eggshell to the man in the living wagon. To leave merely go DOWN and Harlequin will once again appear. South of the signpost you will hear the sound of weeping. Go West to the willow tree and go within its branches. Talk to Pierrot. Inside the manor examine, once again, the shelf where you found the glove and read the note. Go into the candlestick-maker's shop and take the candle. Go on to the stage and talk to the juggler. He will drop a club which you should take. Make sure that you have the glove and go into the woods. Go West and South and a man will rush off, West. Follow him. West of the clearing drop the club to operate the trap. You may now explore the village of the pantomime characters. Examine the fireplace in Clown's house and, wearing the glove, take the poker. Inside the tavern examine the fireplace, poke the cinders and take the black key. Now, light the candle from Clown's fire and enter Pierrot's house. Upstairs the candle will light a doorway. Enter the doorway and open the writing desk with the black key. Take the poem and go back through the doorway and return to the stage. On the stage, give the poem to Columbine. Now, go to the tree stump where the Muses were. Erato will advise you to look inside. Take the marionette, go to the White Horse Inn East of the village green and return the marionette to the puppet-man.
