I'm really missing being there, but here is a short video of what I have been up to.

In case anyone is wondering how I captured the video, here is my "rig". and yes, the lamp and box are integral to the design

Here are a few pics from the weekend, apolgies if they don't meet Dave's exacting standards. I've gone for the "as-it-happened" view.
Great to see everyone again, and nice to see a few new faces.

Hi guys,
I am glad I have finally been able to visit the UK after all those years, I really loved my stay...
I also was pleased to see how much passion there still is for the Acorn hobby, so much knowledge in one room, beautiful...
I like to thank you all for being so, how should I call it,, be yourself, a wonderful group, thanks to let me be a part of this...
I know, it sound probably to soft hearted (again)...
It will probably get hard for me to come next year but I will do my best, I really felt myself at ease in the UK...
Below some of the pictures...
Greetings, Wim...

Had a fabby time meeting new & old faces , but hated the 3+hour wait for my dinner on Friday night
some pics: ^Dave lost his hat.... ^Ian nearly drunk the off wine... ^Everybody wondered where Gary put the paint brush for the undercoat on wall.. ^Phil & Kees found a paintbrush with sound.. ^Ian found an old in-build cheat on his favourite atom pinball game.
Wicked fun

Was good to finally get to an Acorn event this year!
Not sure how I look quite so spaced out in Dave's group photo - I was totally sober, honest!

Re: ABug Mini, Aug 22/23, Bolton (Atom & Electron+BBC)
Just to reassure everyone about the "16K" BBC B which arrived in 2001, which spontaneously combusted after basking in the Bolton sunshine. It had its X2 caps replaced in Bolton, but we didn't get any further on investigating the 16K fault because the video sync had gone.
Well, after re-flowing the solder points on the RGB connector this afternoon to no avail, and then reading the service manual I noticed the video sync link S31 was empty! It's supposed to be jumpered, so I fitted a jumper West and it brought the picture back! I don't know how or when that happened!
Then with the help of these threads:
http://www.stardot.org.uk/forums/viewto ... f=3&t=5089
http://www.stardot.org.uk/forums/viewto ... 05&start=0
I built a little S25 inverter with a 74LS04 I had lying about, so I could boot it up as a 32K machine but with screen corruption, and running the little "&4000" RAM test and getting result 2, I calculated that this meant faulty RAM IC62. A root round a box of spare chips originally from my 2003 Greatest Find, I piggy backed an 8118 over it and whack-o, it's fixed!
Only took me 14 years !

Well done that man!
Re: ABug Mini, Aug 22/23, Bolton (Atom & Electron+BBC)
It happens easy enough when a machine is moved about can get knocked off, or fall off due to vibration etc.BeebMaster wrote: Well, after re-flowing the solder points on the RGB connector this afternoon to no avail, and then reading the service manual I noticed the video sync link S31 was empty! Ideally you should consider the piggy-back as a temporary fix, and replace the dead chip with a socket and a replacement....A root round a box of spare chips originally from my 2003 Greatest Find, I piggy backed an 8118 over it and whack-o, it's fixed!
Heheh time yo get yourself a solder sucker
Cheers.

As the chip is dead . . . Cut it out then remove each pin then use your solder sucker or better still, de-solder braid! Solder suckers can remove pads, if your not careful!

Re: ABug Mini, Aug 22/23, Bolton (Atom & Electron+BBC)
Yes, I will be replacing the chip, I reckon I can probably do that sort of thing nowadays.
I do have a solder sucker but I'm sure it's the cheapest and nastiest one available, I must have bought it 10 or more years ago when I knew even less than I do now. I've never actually removed any solder with it, nothing ever seems to happen apart from dislocating my thumb every time I click the spring.
Instead I have a roll of solder braid, I can operate that and it works pretty well. Yesterday as a sort of primer I noticed two very shabby looking 2114s in my box of spare bits and used the braid to clean off the manky solder off all the pins, they're looking like new now!

Well, I reckon I have excelled myself (starting from a very low base of very low expectations), not only have I replaced the chip, but it still works!
Although, it was looking pretty ropy at the start... But with a little bit of this.. And a little bit of this... It cleaned up very nicely. Then I put in an 8118 and 32K comes to life! I'm wondering whether I'm brave enough to treat it to Econet...
