ABug NORTH, 20/21/22 November 2015, Bolton

Post by sydney »

Hi all.

The November and January meetings went down a storm so I'm pleased to announce the third Acorn & BBC Micro User Group NORTH meeting!

The event will be taking place in a top secret location, details of which will be posted to you on a self destructing c90 tape which contains a routine which allows your beeb to access google maps.....

I'm not sure exactly when we have the room but I presume the following:
Friday 20th: 6pm - 12 midnight (or probably later!)
Saturday 21st: 8am - 12 midnight
Sunday 22nd: 8am - 6pm

I'm sure Arcadian will correct me where I'm wrong.

Costs: This event is free.
Obviously you will have the cost of a hotel room for one or two nights if you want to stay. There are also plans for a curry on the Friday night so please mention if you will be joining in.

The meeting, as always, will be pretty informal so let us know what you will be up to. I know it's a long way off but I'm getting excited already!

There 30 spaces available, 10 more than Halifax, so please post in this thread and send me a direct PM/email to check availability and have your name added to the list. It would be useful if anyone who attended the first meetings could let me know if they won't be coming.

Oh go on then put me down. Gives me 6 months to get up the courage to tell the wife.

Due to the travel time it is unlikely I would get there till nearly midnight. So may not appear on Friday but Saturday would be a yes, and probably till lunch time on Sunday.

I can bring all my broken stuff with me and get everyone to fix it for me! Or is that not the idea.....

Will PM.

I'm sure some of it will be fixed. DaveH fixed a keyboard for me, Hiddenevil had a couple of beebs fixed and 3 psu's, beebmaster(I think) had a econet thingy made. At Wakefiled Daniel spent most of his day soldering pins and upgrading matchbox copro's. Yeah, stuff will be fixed!

Think we need a 'scope day'. Someone can show me where the probes go. Preferably *not* in body parts.

Edit: Oops missed out the 'not' or was it a subliminal thought

'Scope probes in body parts  <ouch>

It's not just about where you put the probes, it's about what signal you are looking for and how to set the 'scope controls up to display what you want (or try to if the signal is not there or not the expected waveform)...

Edit: now my turn to correct some typo's, I think the predictive text and auto correct on these mobile touch screen devices often make it worse compared to just highlighting misspelt works like traditional computer software...

I did of course miss out the 'not' bit, quite an important difference. Corrected now.

Yes as you say the probes is one bit, the wiggly line thingies are another.

Oooo! Forgot to mention . . . I'll be there Friday afternoon - well in time for the curry - until kicking out time on Sunday. Still trying to 'clean-plate' a Chicken Biryany . . .

I'd be very interested in attending the Friday night and Saturday daytime.

I am brand new on the forum so I don't yet have the ability to PM directly - If it's okay for me to come along what's the best way of getting the details?

All the best, Rob.

Can't help with pm abilities but you are on the list for the meeting! I'll pm you the location though it's probably plastered all over the forum now. Bring some kit if you want or don't as there is plenty of stuff to use on site.

pm sent.

I am also new to the forum (and also, therefore, cannot send PMs yet). I am interested in coming for the whole weekend (including the curry), but cannot provide definite confirmation at this stage. I am self-employed and need to see what my workload is like nearer the time and whether I will be able to spare the time. I very much hope I will.

Please could I therefore be added to the tentative list.

Many thanks

Robert

Count me in, I'll be there all 3 days.

Anyone had any thoughts on a food venue, I can't imagine we are in a rush to go back to F&B.

Just checked, and this doesn't clash with the WhiSciFiConFest, so I'll be going, pencilled in for all three days.

Going on a tangent slightly: any chance of a variation on eating out? Frankie & Benny's is ok, but we've been there every evening!

I have decided I definitely need to come. :)

So please can my name be moved from 'Tentative' to 'Confirmed'. I will be there on the Friday evening (please can you put me down for the curry too). I will probably need to leave at about midday on the Sunday.

I would also be grateful if someone could PM me details of the venue.

Thanks

List updated. lazarusr if you are free on the 24th of October you might like to visit the ROUGOL show as there will be a large 8 bit presence this year - and you have mail!

The nearest is the Holiday Inn and, slightly further away is a Travel Lodge. I think everyone now goes to the former.

Incidentally in my electrical diary I have 6th/7th November blocked out for "Halifax Show" - any ideas?
