I half read an earlier post about changing the colour ... I assumed we just picked a colour :-/

What are they supposed to mean?

Ah! Scratch that ... yeah mine should be "willing-to-travel-blue" :p

Also danielj is yellow :)

Oh... I just picked yellow/orange as I quite like it :) Was there meant to be a theme?

Yes, it was a suggestion in the first post - I updated the post and highlighted the colour bit earlier. Just to give an indication of who was willing & able to travel to a meet and who probably wasn't likely to attend, even if it was fairly close to home.

Bletchley Park is a good idea for a location - there was a vintage computer festival there not so long ago where I met a few of the regular here. But can I suggest specifically The National Museum of Computing, which is located on the park but is a separate entity? They have loads of beebs, cheese wedges and a domesday setup, as well as a room or two.

Good idea. TNMC/MK is just about the farthest south I can easily get to.

Looks good; I added "sweh@home" in the right place; "GB view" still focuses on the UK, and "global view" focuses on the center of the "pond" :-)

Another venue suggestion for a southern meetup - the Centre for Computing History in Cambridge. Bring your Beebs back to their birth place!

A big plus point of this venue is that I've already spoken to Jason Fitzpatrick (aka The Boss!) and he would love to host it :-)

So if that sounds good and someone would like to step forward as chief organiser (don't look at me, one show a year is enough!) I'll put you in touch.

I did actually speak with Jason at CFCH a couple of weeks ago, and floated the idea of hosting a Southern Beeb user group meet there.

Whilst it wasn't ruled out, he explained that one of the problems in hosting 'private' gatherings (such as the Arcade machine repair session from last weekend) was that they can 'put off' general museum visitors - which in turn has an adverse affect on footfall to the site.

Jason mentioned that the CFCH will be hosting an Acorn-themed 'do' in 2015 - so I suggested that for now (until details/dates of the event are known) it might be better to simply make sure that all *. members are aware of the event via the forum (and that's where I left it).

And there I was, under the impression that a lot of production Beebs were given birth (made) in South Wales...

I have added myself also.

I am actually looking to go to Bletchley Park soon. When I last went 6 years ago my daughter was in a push chair, now it is time to start her education proper!

Looks like the Acorn Capital is Ipswich? My wife will be happy for me to meet there if you do it in the John Lewis at Euro Park ;-)

Duncan

I was thinking of suggesting a meet-up near or at Bletchley Park for the southerners as it is fairly central to them (and not because I would be nearest ;), but while waiting for something related (apart from the beebs they have/had there) to be on there, forgot all about it!

The sets used in parts of the Turing Film will be there till around November.

I get emailed the monthly news letter but think I deleted the most recent one.

I think that's now me, only 1,500 miles! I am going to be moving next to Waltermixxx later this year though so you'll have the West half of the continent to yourself again.
What!!?? You've forgotten me, owner of the NorthWest portion of the North American continent up here between Vancouver and Whistler in my quaint little town of Squamish......sigh :( :o

Ipswich Town Football club? Was a very successful club in the early days of Atom/BBC Micro. Not so much now unfortunately.

Also we only have a pin for Tom in Cambridge, you would have thought there would have thought it would be compulsory for ARM employees to be part of the BBC scene.

Hello everyone! I'm a newb. Here's my self-introduction:
My name is Richard Cook and I am a born-again Acorn Electron aficionado from Seattle in the United States. I grew up in the UK and the Electron was my first real computer back in the mid-80s. As part of my ongoing mid-life crisis, I found an Electron on eBay and, at great expense, had it imported over here and I'm getting back into it. I expect that my main interests will be 6502 assembly language programming and the like.
See you round!
