Hi there,

Only a few days before ABUG Meetup. Out of interest, and to whet the appetite (not neccesarily referring to the curry here :) )... how about those of us attending mentioning what we're planning on getting up to, and what kit we're bringing [I know some of you have done so already..]

My 2 cents..

What I'll be up to:
- I'll carry on programming my 2 player biplane dogfight game..STILL a work-in-progress, but it is slowly but surely getting there
- Having a natter with everyone to find out what projects they're working on!
- Asking flynnjs to put the decoupling capacitors on my Matchbox CoPro (thanks in advance :) ) - and possibly updating the CoPro? If latter is possible, I'd also like to learn how it's done
- Maybe do some speed tests for BBC BASIC routines running on the different copros?

Kit I'll be bringing:
- Retroclinic BBC B
- Matchbox CoPro
- Beeb joysticks
- Elk and plus 1 with Martin B's UpUrs interface + cable
- Two lcd monitors + Extron dv204 scaler
- Laptop

I hope to be at the hotel by 5pm-ish on the Friday . Looking forward to seeing everyone :)

Hardware wise,

I have a couple of HD44780 standard LCD character displays (link). One of them I had working on my Beeb (eek!) 24 years ago (!!!) When I last played with it I couldn't get it working. Would there be anybody who could test them to check that they (don't) work?

Would there be anybody who could image the 20M SCSI drive from my Torch Server? (pic)

Hopefully I shall also be bringing my fileserver A3020 and VGA monitor, a couple of networked Masters with 5.25" and 3.5" drives and LCD TV, econet cables and clock. There should also be a number of BBC educational titles to hack (mostly ADFS but the process is the same.

It would be nice to get my matchbox copro working properly too. [-o<

I'm not sure! What do others think? It was late last time as Col and I arrived late but I'm hoping to leave Newcastle at about 3pm so should be there between 5 and 6. Could those interested in a curry let us know what time they expect to arrive so we can get this organised. What about the venue? Apparently Ziggy's is the 3rd best restaurant in Halifax according to trip advisor! I'll have a bit of a look later on to see where else could be an option.

Simon -

I'm planning on showing up at 5ish on Friday. I'd be happy to hang back and have a late curry so that as many of us can go as possible ( Plus I was wondering if we could set up our kit in the conf room beforehand?)

As for venue - I thought Ziggy's was fine but happy to go elsewhere. If there are more than 4-5 of us going for meal then perhaps it'd be worth booking a table somewhere in advance?

I'll also be leaving Manchester (well, Cheadle) at 5:30pm on Friday for curry night if I'm there in time. However, Sheffield -> Cheadle took 3 hours this morning, so I'll probably get to Halifax around 9pm!

Fortunately it's a different route to Halifax, the M62 is usually clearer than the passes to Sheffield!

This thing's estimating about 1hr15 at the moment, that sounds probably about right... Should be there by 7.30ish at the latest to be on the safe side (assuming snowmageddon doesn't mess everything up on wednesday/thursday)

I'm due to arrive by train at 16:13.
If anyone could give me a lift from the station, that would
be great (and also a drop-off back to the station on Saturday).

Loading up bags with as much as I can carry on the train :)

Hope this snow doesn't get too deep, not driven in snow before so could be um....'interesting' :)

On a more positive note anything anyone wants me to bring?

Arcadian: I have your Plus 3 interfaces to return and also your external mode 7 boxes as I don't think I'm going to have time to reverse engineer at the moment.

Cheers.

If your train is late I'll happily pick you up but I won't get there until 5-6 pm, is anyone else able to do this if the train is on time?. I'll drop you off on Saturday too.

Hi flynnjs,
like sydney I likely won't be there til 5-ish. In case traffic and weathr is on myside and I get there earlier, happy to pick you up. If you PM me we could swap phone numbers. I could then give you a call when I'm near Halifax to see if you still need picking up..

I'm keeping an eye on the weather - gotta go along the M62 in rush hour, and they're forecasting sleet/snow at the moment for that time of day, which means it'll be snow right at the top. That basically means getting stuck in traffic hell in the Pennines and not arriving until well after a curry so might be worth my while just hanging out in the warm/dry and heading over first thing in the morning instead. Will make a decision later... :(

Well the midlands....Coventry at lest seems to have only a light covering, so shouldn't be too bad.

Aye, unfortunately it's going to be the combination of being on the highest motorway in England, it snowing and it being rush hour which might scupper my route :( - Actually, I think it'll be OK to get across, it's just that it will probably take forever at that time of day and by the time I've done it there'd be little point...

You're probably better coming from further south as you don't have to cross the Pennines and can just zoom up the M1 :)

I'll see how it pans out - but that bit of road is awful if the weather's crap - incredibly blowy...
