@dixiestoat and now yours is on its way!

well, my own stocks of Mountain Panic have finally run dry, but our production team is sitting on some more so hopefully anyone else who submits an orders@retrosoftware.co.uk will still be able to get one from Arcadian and co.

Sam.

The game is great! I've been playing it this Saturday morning. I'm loving it!

I noticed something strange though. In spite of choosing keyboard (and redefining the keys), I can't play with it if my original Acorn (analog) joystick is connected. It only accepts joystick no matter what.

It's not a real problem, I'm just saying.

Great job, great game! Plus I love the work of Mr. Lovecraft!

Best game ever! Out does Castle Quest and Wizadore!

Controls great, Lovely graphics and nice sounds - more sfx and an eerie background tune would have been perfect.

That radio play was really good as well - it's really set the tone of the adventure well - and it was a brilliant idea to base a game off this story.

I actually find Lovecraft to be a bit heavy to read - he uses really long sentences so hearing it on the radio was a lot easier.

I've noticed a similar joystick bug running on a real BBC-B.

If you start the game by hitting return without a joystick connected then the keyboard works but the player always moves to the left and up when nothings being touched.

If you then connect a joystick then the joystick and the keyboard both work fine.

I'm guessing this is because when the joystick is not connected the adval() reading is either all min or all max - so the bug is the game is trying to read the joystick even when it is not selected.

Thanks for the positive feedback, it's great to read. It can be really difficult after working on something on and off for years to judge how it actually plays!

I will look into the joystick issue, we did test on both BBC B, Master and Master Compact (even B+ I think). Apologies for that problem, I wonder if I've been too generous with a joystick dead zone or some such.

Cheers

Thanks Samwise!

Recieved my disk yesterday. Had already been playing the SSD though
Proved a little hard on first play, so i had to resort to cheating
I've now created a screenshot map of the game, but the first "level" with the Base Camp on appears to have 2 too many screens, which then means that the West tower and the Waste Land to the right don't line up correctly with the level below #-o
Very enjoyable game though, congratulations Dave =D>

OK, I hate to be "that guy", but can we keep bug reports over on the RS forum. Mainly because there are people that buy our games who aren't regulars of this forum and it would really help them to hear about the latest status of any problems with the released game. Similarly, if you have good feedback it'd be great to see it reported over there too - this topic will fall by the wayside here eventually, whereas people will be able to find feedback left in the RS Mountain Panic forum much later down the line ...

Cheers!

Glad everyone has received their copies so far and been able to have fun with it. :)

@davidb Nice spot - the author of that video review has been promising us a video review of Repton: TLR since he bought a copy many moons ago. It's great that he got round to reviewing Mountain Panic. I've added a few comments to his video. :)

@billcarr2005, can you send me a copy of your screenshot map? that sounds great! Not sure we should post it publicly quite yet, but I could lob it on the RS website in a few months time, after people have had a proper chance to get stuck into the game, depending on how Dave F feels about it.

Yeah wouldn't mind a copy of that map myself! It's currently burnt into my brain but I expect it'll vanish at some point, things don't usually stick around too long in there ;)

Glad everyone's enjoying the game, still can't believe I actually finished it

Check your inbox, Dave. :)

Unless you object, I'll add it to the Retro Software Mountain Panic page but I thought I'd hold off for a month or so just to let ppl get a bit further in the game without the temptation to sneak a peek!

Sam.
I tried and got this:

Code: Select all

  Recipient address: order@retrosoftware.co.uk
Reason: Remote SMTP server has rejected address
  Diagnostic code: smtp;550 5.0.0 <order@retrosoftware.co.uk>... No such retrosoftware.co.uk user.
Will try orders@ and see if that works.

Thanks, Mark.

I assumed they were busy, so I was trying a gentle nudge rather than a whine. But I might have failed. :D

So about a month ago I emailed Retro Software asking to buy Mountain Panic, and so far I have received no reply. Any ideas how I purchase a copy, please?

I would just follow up with them. They are conscientious so something may have been missed, it wouldn't have been on purpose, thats for sure and they are great to deal with.

Sorry if we missed the email, Vinny.

Still need to get the next batch of Mountain Panic floppies mastered. Have been away at events for the last few weeks - just leaving the NEC now, then have a quiet couple of weeks, so should be able to get some more done very soon!

I also emailed about a copy ages ago, and meant to respond when the last set of discs became available but didn't get around to it. But I'd like to get this, too, when you are ready.

Thanks.
