Disk PEAR01: Pole Position and Screwball do not load
Both load and play here.
Disk PEAR02: Eagle's Wing, the loader screen seems a bit low
Looks fine to me, is it different from other versions?
Disk PEAR03: Jump Jet, small amount of graphics corruption (top left)
Agreed, assumed to be a bug in original game. Are other versions different?

Cheers Pernod,
Will double-double check these asap.
What set-up are you using to run these on?
Real beeb, or emulated??
If real beeb, what DFS etc does it have?

Thanks again mate.

Re-checked PEAR01 Pole Position.
This is embarrasing!! it is me not pressing f1 to start the game!!!
Makes sense f1 really :D
Screwball crashes "BAD COMMAND" after the menu states LOADING SCREWBALL BY MRM SOFTWARE
It loads fine on BEEBEM.
I wonder if this is a WATFORD disk??

Eagle's Wing is fine if power cycled before loading

Jump Jet does indeed have the same graphics corruption on disk D1 and disk MB009

Am testing on BeebEm 4.14, Model B with Watford DFS 1.44.

All disks originally worked on a real Beeb, Watford DFS, ATPL board with SWR. SWR required for some adventures as the loader automatically tries to load DFS.E00.

Hi Lee

(E) is a Electron only title that works OK on the Beeb or has been amended to work on the beeb.

(P) is a game that uses Passwords for later levels and those passwords can be found in my instructions by pressing P instead of space bar. A kind of easter egg!

regards,
Mick.

@Mick Cheers for that!!
@Pernod...
Grabit works if I *run -.grabit but does not load from the menu
Also it crashes on Beebem (8271) before loading

nb.. I can't seem to set my Beebem to Watford DFS so that's another job to investigate :?

the WDFS.ROM is in the folder (MyDocs>BeebEm>BeebFile>BBC), but to save time swapping the DFS226.ROM, just do : Hardware>BBC Model>BBC Model+IntegraB 8)

@Pernod,
It seems a lot of these may indeed be DFS related.
Fixed Beebem (Cheers Col) and the problems disappear!!
All the arcade disk 10's load fine.
Grabit loads fine etc.

Do you have a list (!) of all the disks which require WATFORD DFS??

I have a Beeb with Acorn 1770 DFS 2.26 knocking about which has an ashtray mounted ZIF socket. Can I just stuff a watford rom in there?

@McD By Jingo you're right!! I don't have that version :D

yes Lee, it does work! I had it on my beeb BITD, but I also used *UNPLUG 13 (DFS2.26)

Just assume all my disks require the Watford DFS, they won't be using any of the extra commands from the DFS, just the 62 file directory.

3 questions :D
1) What the ruddy heck is that Integra B???
2) Does anybody have a WATFORD DFS ROM they want to donate / flog??
3)*UNPLUG what's that?
4) just thought of this one! If I were to decide on upgrading to SWR for my bestest Beeb, which solution is the best? looked at old school ones (Sold about 4 in the last few months!) and also new school versions.
Which one of the new solutions is best? (I have a datacentre)...

5) Why did I start this?

It's a DFS that runs in SWR so PAGE is left at &E00. I found it handy for multi load tapes such as Dunjunz and large adventures that couldn't even be loaded at &1100 then moved.

You'll find SWR useful for Doctor Who and Mines of Terror too as my loader will use it rather than having to burn the ROM.

2 I can burn you one in a fortnight if you really wish
3 like on the master, but in the ADT rom, a command to 'take out' a rom without opening her up and taking the rom out the socket
4 I have a Watford 128k Rom/Ram board,
5 you love games.....really =D>
6 DFSE00 if a DFS that used a little swram to store the catalogue (*CAT and info on files) so can run old tape games without hassle to move memory about to get it to work with normal DFS1900. Never was one for beeb, just master and elk Plus1 carts.

Really??? I used to use STL0E00 and DFS.E00 on the Beeb. I think STL was by Solidisk but not sure where DFS.E00 came from. Never compared them so they may be the same with different titles.

Yeah, Solidisk did one for the 8271 and one for their 1770 board (which I had). It was small enough that I could fit it onto a EPROM along with EXMON. Of course it couldn't run from that ROM; I hack a quick * command that'd copy the ROM into a SWR bank. So I could type "*E1770 F" and the E00 DFS would be copied over.

Hmm, I might be able to rebuild that for BeebEm and the 8271. Just to complete my emulator experience :-) I need to work out how to talk to TurboMMC before I can do similar on my real Beeb.

Re: STH 143 Disc compilation Excel list - Thoughts??

Here is the latest version of the Excel spreadsheet listing over 5000 Games and other software.
At Pernod's request I have now included whether it is a C cassette or D disk version.
U = unknown source or from a copied disk.
H = hybrid (this is where MB has included the extra tape loader screens on a disk version for completeness)
T= type-in but I cannot find a reliable source for this as yet.
BBC Disc And Tapes.zip
(798 KiB) Downloaded 165 times
The file is uploaded with a ZIP extension. This needs to be RENAMED to a XLS extension to view the sheet.

Pernod has supplies his sources, and I have transposed Michael Brown's.
I do not have source info for the STH collection, so if anyone knows if this does/doesn't exist please let me know.

After a bit of thought, I am going to change tack slightly.
One of my aims was to have a list of the locations of all our BBC games collection, that would play on a standard real Beeb.
My decision on using a datacentre was that, in the future, more and more people may use a real beeb this way, loading from a USB stick etc.
Couple this with the fact that a lot (if not all) of Pernod's disks play fine under emulation, and fine with a Beeb with Watford DFS 1.44 installed, but NOT with a 'standard' 31 file DFS, I have decided to stop testing Pernod's collection for the time being. (My main beebs do not have Watford DFS installed), and instead, I am going to extract from the list, all of the titles that ONLY appear on Pernod's disks so that we may try to Re-make 1 or 2 disks from these in a DSD format that ANY standard Beeb can use.

So.... That's the job for this aft!

As far as I can see, these games do not appear on any other disk other than Pernod's collection.
I need to double check, but my eyes are burning at the minute
Maybe we could make 2 disks using standard DFS for these titles?? :D

The Superior loading screens are official, from the later PIAS releases.

All MODDED games are my own versions with infinite lives, etc.

I doubt Phantom Combat will be any different to other versions, though haven't checked.

indeed, for tape to disc transfers without the original loading screens/instructions that were present on tapes. (hence me turning them into emulator friendly csw/uef/hqUef :D )

what i meant was the actual game is Exactly the same (apart from Revs+?), but Superior/Acornsoft have just added a loader screen for it on their release. As Ocean's Hunchback never had one BITD, but they have also changed the high-score table to say Superior instead of Ocean and also changed (C) Century Electronics to Ocean Soft Ltd [-( lol
also the 'extra' re-release screens are on the 144STH discs aswell 8)
The first says 'Doctor Soft 1985' and the second 'Doctor Soft 1986'.
ahh, the '85 disc "BBC 'B' 32K" (which i still have and to image (for Bill Carrs project)...) is not 8271 compatible, but the '86 version "BBC SERIES" is (i have both, the '85 disc won't copy with ADI rom, but other does!)

I got the Moon Cresta FDI from Arcadian, i think it's a similar protection as Phantom Combat - W1S, X.X, X.X1, etc. and although it's initially not combatible with 8271 DFS, it's only due to the what the !BOOT does. *RUN W1S BOOT loads the program just fine!
Also, neither the BBC SERIES (some tracks contain deleted data) or BBC 'B' 32K (deleted data and unformatted tracks) are especially heavily protected!

One for Mick Brown,
Mick, as you know, I think we are very close to getting Bug Eyes sorted, so using the assumption you will be moving up the disks in numerical order, the next issues would be GUARDIAN loading as DEFENDER on disk 14, MATCH Day saying MATCHDAY on disk 16's menu screen, the ELK version of GAUNTLET not loading on disk 22, and LIGHT CYCLE not loading on disk 22.

1) Are we satisfied that there is no release version of GUARDIAN that loads as GUARDIAN?
2)Could you alter the MATCHDAY menu and re-issue the disk so we all have identical disks? (I know it's insignificant, but that's what I'm like!)
3) Start looking at disk 22?

I have just copied a floppy version of disk 22 to rule out datacentre issues again, and here is what I have found:

Gauntlet fails on a BAD COMMAND at LINE 30 which reads *FX163,128,1
If I remove this line, it seems to work OK (with or without datacentre).
The game loads fine via Beebem with the line in....

Light Cycle loads from floppy, and is fine via Beebem,
It does not load from datacentre.
Cheers Mick! :D
