Yes I know the Repton 3 clones should be separate choices but the ezPoll only allows for five answers!! <img src=http://www.ezboard.com/intl/aenglish/im ... /frown.gif ALT=":(">
Around The World In 40 Screens

Post by Alex Ives »

I voted for this one, because apart from Repton 1, it was the only one I had, and also, because it came with a level editor! How cool! I'm not sure if any others did, but this one was great!

Apart from this game, Magic Mushrooms and Impact, none of my other games had level creators! Anyone know of any others?
Repton 2

Repton 2 is the best of the Repton games because:

(a) You have to complete it in one go.
(b) There are no maps (these just make the game easier).
(c) There are a plethora of cunningly devised puzzles.
(d) It was written by the original Repton author.
(e) Despite claims from Superior at the time, it is bigger than Repton 3 (Repton 3 had more screens, but each was smaller).
(f) There is no fungus.
(g) There are no crowns (I mean, what was the point?).
(h) The graphics are marginally better than Repton 3 (look at those crumbling walls).

Once, after four hours of play, I got to within ten blocks of earth and four diamonds of getting everything. I made a tiny mistake towards the end.

Level editor? Ha! Rep INF had programmable sprites, sprite editor, and level editor... Oh the fun I had as a kiddie programming games the only way it could be done back then by the likes of me. It's the only game I EVER heard about asked for for the beeb, as opposed to just using the games we had.

Repton 3

Although it was Repton 2 which got me into the series, Repton 3 for me was the most enjoyable. It was easier (making it more fun) and you could play it in small bursts due to there being passwords. The level and character editor were a brilliant idea and really add to the lastability.
Around the World was my least favourite, never have I anticipated a game so much... and been so disappointed. I remember the advert saying something along the lines of 'Chase the bandits into Jail' - what a con, they were just spirits.
