Jason and I converted a couple of ps2 mice at the ABug meet at the weekend so this is a good opportunity to test them out fully! Will I need the rom or does the software handle the mouse automatically?

The previous dumps were all DSD but both sides were identical, so redumped them all as SSD, and added the following:
- AMX Art
AMXArt.jpg
- AMX Super Art
AMXSuperArt.jpg
- AMX Pagemaker
- AMX Pagemaker Fonts

Unable to redump 3D Zicon as disc has gunged my drives :(

You will also need the ROM. I'd recommend at least version 3.31, see http://mdfs.net/System/ROMs/Pointer/

Cheers! I gave i a try earlier today but the master didn't like the ROM I'd chosen. I'll give the ROM you mentioned tomorrow.

Hi guys,

Has anyone had any luck with the disk images supplied above? AMX SuperArt just goes into an infinite load-and-reboot loop, and AMX PageMaker fails with a bad command error.

(Using BeebEm to emulate a Master 128, with AMX ROM 361 from JGH's site installed.)

These versions are BBC only, there is a Master version of Super Art at viewtopic.php?f=7&t=2163&p=15522. For PageMaker you'll need the ROMs.

Thanks for that!

If I load the AMX Super Art Master.ssd disk with the same config (Master 128, AMX ROM 3.61, AMX ticked on in BeebEm menu) then I get an error of "Pointer switched off at line 2025". Have you seen that before?

No, because I followed the instructions onscreen:

Code: Select all

*BASIC

*| Master BBC Boot File
*|
*| If roms loaded then chain !MENU
X%=&70:Y%=0:A%=64:!&70=-1:CALL &FFF1
IF !&70<>-1 THEN CHAIN "!MENU"
*|
*| Load in Roms

*SRLOAD Support 8000 X Q
*SRLOAD RomD1 8000 Y Q
*SRLOAD RomD2 8000 Z Q

I don't get those instructions. For me, it goes as far as the "CHAIN "!MENU"" line, then I get the error about the Pointer being switched off. :(

Ah, sorted it! I was making a point of installing the ROM into a slot with BeebEm (because that's what I remember doing for real when I had SuperArt on a model B many years ago) which was confusing the later *SRLOAD stuff. I didn't realise that the Master version just had the ROMs as images to go straight into sideways RAM.

All working now - thanks for your patience!

Anyone have anything to add to this collection?

My disc images of Pagemaker are actually Pagemaker+ and only work with the Pagemaker+ 1.7 ROMs. I have ROMs for Pagemaker 1.0 and Pagemaker+ 1.3 but no floppies to go with them. Also still looking for floppies for Stop Press (Beeb and Elk) and XAM.

Thanks for those, but can't get it to run. Tried in both a B with ROMs loaded and a Master using the Master Downloader, both give Bad Command at the Control Menu trying to issue *pMouse. What am I missing?

I'm not sure...
After the prolonged title sequence "TITLES", I'm prompted to press any key for mouse/keyboard control and I'm then presented with the main menu "MENU"
*pMOUSE from the > prompt has no issues either
AMX STOP PRESS MAIN MENU.png
That's using BeebEM 4.14 in BBC Master 128 mode, running the Master Downloader and having

Code: Select all

AMX STOP PRESS 1.9

appear in *HELP

Hi all,

It's is quite an old (forum) subject but I'm trying to collect as much AMX software/ROMs as I can.
At the moment I have a lot myself and found also a lot spread around on the forum.
I would like archive all the versions that where released (or as much as I can find) of the AMX software and put them on my site as a complete overview, with the compatibility of the several machines.

So is there anyone who can help me with the following manuals?
manuals :
- AMX Zicon
- AMX Database
- AMX Stop Press - I found a manual on eBay (https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/AMX-Stop-Pre ... Sw9-ZeT62W) with the complete bundled software, but wondered if someone can help me out on this one

Billcarr, do you still have the ROM dumps of te versions V3.12, V3.20d, V3.31? Could you send them here so I can archive them?

In my rom collections I also found Mouse Support ROM V4 and V5.
When loaded in SWR (or as ROM en BeebEm) and type *H. they appear. But a command like *POINTER ON gives an error.
Does anyone know what kind of versions they are?

Cheers

These are Master only, and are usually loaded into SWR from floppy. There's a link to Super Art for Master earlier in this thread.

Aaaah that helps a lot. Had only bits and parts of these images!! :D
Thanks.

Strangely enough is that the mouse support image that is used works perfect in BeebEm, but not on my Master.
When all loaded and typed *POINTER ON and giving a ctr+break, the machine hangs with only an option to enter a star command.
So I type *B. and do PRINT ~PAGE it gives 0.
so I set the page to F00 manually and press break again, and again the only option is to enter a * command.
After a view times (sometimes I use CTRL+A+BREAK to force an ADFS start) I enter Basic as normal in page F00 and the mouse works good.
The same happens when I switching of the pointer. (using *POINTER OFF) I have to do the same as above but then setting the page to E00 a view times.
Is there a known incompatibility with AMX and some products?

UPDATE : I posted this question earlier but not solved yet......

I got a manual, 2 disks and 2 ROMs for Watford Stop Press with a Beeb I picked up today. The manual has a different cover from the one in the eBay listing, but it says "AMX STOP PRESS" in the corner of each page, and it's 93 pages long.

(The ROMs have handwritten labels saying they're ver 1.9. Haven't got round to taking copies of them or the disks yet. Still trying to get the machine to work )

Sounds promising!
It seems there have been 2 versions of Stop Press 1.9. The ROM (the ones you have) and the Disc version, found here on the forum.
The manual I have is for PageMaker and is also 93 pages long. So I'm wondering what the difference is going to be. (except for the name)
Let me know your findings of the version you have.

ZIPs of the ROMs and disks I've got attached.

The two ROMs I've got are different from the images on Bill's disk, but I think the ROMs look more sensible. The differences are in STOPPR1: (- is the ROM, + is the disk)

Hi Tom,

Thanks! :D :D
Good to have a complete font disc, including the demo page.
Had the demo page, but not in this 'official' combination.

And I'll have a good look at both manuals. If there is a 1.7 and 1.9, I don't think its a name only that has changed.

The difference you show me with the 2 version, is a bit abracadabra to me (or greek to me).
In the numbers and code I see some differences, but can't make out what is better/sense or not.

Cheers
