New demo for BBC Master 128
Hi everyone
I've released a new demo, just in time for Christmas! It's Master 128 only I'm afraid, though I'll try to do a Youtube video for those Master-less. It works fine in B-em, but Beebem isn't recommended as it has a couple of issues.
It's at http://b-em.bbcmicro.com/TheMaster-Demo128.zip.

So much work must have gone into that.

Re: New demo
Wow, a megademo for the Beeb!
Never would have believed that some of those effects were possible on a humble 8-bit Acorn ... had to keep on reminding myself that it was running on a BBC Master!
Love the inclusion of the Lost Realms stuff too!
Ok, so when are you planning on converting Second Reality to the Beeb, eh?

Re: New demo
For anyone without a Master 128 who would like to see this marvellous tech-demo, I've uploaded a video, recorded from real hardware to my YouTube channel:
Re: New demo
Surely that should be entered into Sundown's 2011 demo competition for next year - it would surely scoop first prize!!!
Re: New demo
It is bleepybleepydemotastic

Re: New demo
Just tried this on a Master I'm prepping - looks really
Nice work! Any chance of doing the 3D bits Co-Pro compatible?

Re: New demo
I second that but let's have it BeebSID compatible as well!retroclinic wrote:Nice work Tom! Any chance of doing the 3D bits Co-Pro compatible?
Re: New demo
That's amazing work. When you only need a 2MHz CPU to run this program, but then you need a Pentium 4 with 1400MHz to run Windows Millennium, I can say that something went drastically wrong somewhere along the way!
In this demo, I think I liked the test card most, and the music seemed trance-influenced.

Re: New demo
That's weird - didn't work properly on my Master.
I was running it via my DataCentre. Nothing else special with my master. It plays the first part then the screen goes blank. Music is still playing.

Re: New demo
Gah! I think I saw that bug - once. May not be DataCentre compatible - try just running it off floppy.

Re: New demo
While you're fixing that bug, could you add Tube optimization and SID music?SarahWalker wrote:Gah! I think I saw that bug - once. May not be DataCentre compatible - try just running it off floppy.
Re: New demo
Yeah, I have the same problem and exactly the same symptoms. Screen blank and sound distorted after the MASTER 128 section ends.
I tried *IMPORTING the .ssd onto a floppy and running it that way but had no success.
Could it be the intital *IMPORT command which is the culprit? Had that somewhere else recently - think it was on latest LOTR disk images.

Re: New demo
Ran from a DataCentre RAM drive for me just fine all the way through. Does it have to have specific sideways RAM banks available to work (IE, not jumpered to the ROM socket)?

Re: New demo
Yep, cracking work Tom! I've been watching this one evolve over the last weeks, and the end product is fantastic - and there are tricks there I've never seen done before anywhere else (not even by Orlando!).
Great stuff
Now, who can guess how the rippling testcard effect is done (by far the most impressive bit I think)?

Re: New demo
Good point. It needs all the sideways RAM, ie banks 4,5,6 and 7. The demo won't load at all if 7 is unavailable, and will crash after the intro if 4 is not available.retroclinic wrote:Ran from a DataCentre RAM drive for me just fine all the way through. Both seem to be missing the point quite a bit, which is to see what can be done with a 'stock' machine. Tube optimisation wouldn't add much (the 3D routines spend far more time in rendering than transformation), and SID music would involve me doing lots of code relocation.ukretrogamer wrote:While you're fixing that bug, could you add Tube optimization and SID music?
Re: New demo
All is now clear but I think I'll stick with the emulator, too many ROMS to clear out.
Sorry Mark, didn't mean to cast any aspersions on the DataCentre - I love it.

Re: New demo
I keep trying to load but it just loads for a few seconds before going silent and the screen blank. (loading by *!boot, shift break doesn't work, *run !boot CH."LOADER" *run loader and so on) Please help as i have no mods on my master as yet!
Why do I keep buying broken stuff?
Re: New demo
Just noticed that in the other post you were using ADFS, have you tried switching to DFS as the boot filing system and re-booting this disk.

Did you check your SWR links (as mentioned above)? Is your SWR working ok?jeggy111 wrote:I keep trying to load but it just loads for a few seconds before going silent and the screen blank.
