RiscPC Battery earth missing & not booting

Post by razz177 »

Hi
Risc Pc 1 The Pads for the Battery earth are not present, where could I solder the earth lead to ? This could wait really till I have got it working.

When I try to boot this I get floppy error

If I let it drop into supervisor the keyboard does not work

Floppy error code 00010099 (This could be wrong) is this the CMOS or is there more than this to blame

I feel this could be a long one.
Thanks Raymond

Hi,

I mapped out the connections to the CMOS area here:
viewtopic.php?t=8326&p=88469

The only error code to worry about on your machine is that top right tick, which is CMOS unreadable so it appears there's a connection issue to the CMOS chip.

Cheers.

Reconnected negative to resistor first location from missing solder point.
continuity between position 1 and 2, at position 1 I get 1.3V there are two legs at position 3 I get 5V on the bottom one, I get 1.6V on the top one, I have continuity between 4,5,6,7,8,9, but not 10, I have continuity between 10,11,12 but not 13, then continuity between 13 & 6 all continuity with power off.
Please forgive the long winded approach , this is my first time time trying to sort these out I have been reading up all day on this.
I have read that I should get 5V on pin 8 of the 8583T but I only get 4V

Thanks for any help & advice you van give me.

My understanding is that the 8583T can run on between 1V to 6V input, hence it's able to keep running on a 1.2V battery.

5V comes in through point 3.
Point 2 should be connected to the battery + terminal.

Have you used a multimeter on all the connections marked (red, blue and black) and are any of them bad?

yes point 2 is connected to battery + terminal D2 (point 3) two legs at that side in picture and I do not get 5v on either of them on the bottom I get 3.5 and on the top one I get 1.8 this is with power turned on.

I have continuity between 4,5,6,7,8,9, but not 10, I have continuity between 10,11,12 but not 13, then continuity between 13 & 6 all continuity with power off.

I must go to bed now as my Daughter is getting Married later today.
Thanks
I will pick this up again when sober.
