Push - Acorn Archimedes 64Kb Demo

Post by kieranhj »

Hello! We made another Archimedes thing! I was aiming to lean into the strengths of the ARM, i.e. lots of maths, so we made a real-time particle dynamics system.

push-screenshot.png

You can download it from our website here: https://bitshifters.github.io/posts/prods/bs-push.html. Min requirements are 8MHz ARM2 and 2Mb RAM.

Or if you don't have an Archie then watch on YouTube: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NgT1aA8yv6Y.

This time we decided to be a bit more disciplined, so it's a 64Kb executable. Huge thanks to steve3000 for creating TinyQTM which reduces the size of the QTM MOD player by more than half! And thanks again to Sarah Walker for her optimised circle routies. 8) We hope you enjoy the demo!

Glancing at your screenshot I thought “oh, it’s just something in MODE 1”.

But I was (happily) wrong. Being more 8-bit, I watched the video and was both very impressed at its fluidity and delighted that such demos are being written

Hat tip to those involved

Fantastic work! Great to see such smooth graphics combined with your use of real-time hardcore maths crunching to put this apart from some of the other platform entries :)

Brilliant - and great to see a demo that eschews the normal cliches. It has real flair.

Didn't work on RISC PC, is it too modern?

Looking (and sounding) very nice on A5000.

Remembered how to get Snapper to take a screenshot when there's a task window taking over:

Sorry, it’s pre-RiscPC only. I didn’t have the spare bytes to put the RISCOS version check in the !Run file.

Fair enough! Hope to have the A305 running again very soon, will try it on that.
