Re: A5000 help
I thought it was usually hold down R while turning on to reset the configuration settings, but you might just need to change the resolution settings (think it is middle button on the palette icon?) Might also be worth checking the connection on the video lead to see if anything has corroded over the years.

Re: A5000 help
If you've snipped the battery you need to hold down "Delete" every time you power on.
Re: A5000 help
You're attached to a 15KHz monitor. Isn't the default for A5000 to output a 31KHz screen? I don't know I've never had mine working yet but that was one of the attractions for me that the A5000 could output 31KHz screens.

15-pin D male->male VGA cable + 15-pin D ->9-pin D adapter
https://www.retro-kit.co.uk/page.cfm/co ... index.html
Something like this :
https://www.amazon.co.uk/Aptii-HD15-Fem ... B005M1M4J2
https://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/aw/d/B098NRJBN7
Or possibly this :
https://www.amazon.co.uk/Conversion-KAN ... B08GXYJWZB
Obviously you need an LCDTV / Monitor with a VGA input. Most older ones have that. If you have a LCD monitor or your living room TV have a look if it has VGA input.

Re: A5000 help
Cheers I’ll try that
Re: A5000 help
Get some feedback from A5000 users. Perhaps there is something they can get you to type to switch to 15KHz mode.

Re: A5000 help
The A5000 works fine with a VGA monitor, using a standard VGA 15 pin cable.
Are you sure the video cable you are using now is ok?
It should default to 15KHz mode if you keep 0 pressed on the numeric key pad while resetting.

Re: A5000 help
If you have a TV with PC input try that. Switch on with Del key pressed and it should work if all is well.
The VGA lead is also important from experience. Modern ones just do not work despite what advice is given.

Re: A5000 help
Nope, the default for A5000, like every RISC OS 3.1 machine, is 15kHz.
The screen above is clearly running at 15kHz and the A5000 is outputting 15kHz, or you wouldn't have horizontal sync (and wouldn't see a recognisable display). The issue here appears to be an incorrect vertical or composite sync setting or an incorrectly wired lead.
I'd suggest first trying *configure sync 1 and returning to desktop, to see if that helps. Otherwise it could be the cable wiring that's wrong, try reading this: https://www.retro-kit.co.uk/user/custom ... te-249.pdf
The A5000 will work nicely with 15kHz, multi sync or fixed 31kHz VGA and 35kHz SVGA screens, but it always starts at 15kHz, completes the power-on self test (filling the 15kHz screen with blue and magenta colours) then checks the 'ID' pins on the cable, to 'detect' VGA or SVGA, and switches mode to the detected type (or stays at 15kHz if nothing detected) during boot-up.
