Pirate "Compilation Games Disks" from the 1980s

Post by OneSwitch »

Hello all,

I was wondering if anyone has any .SSD / .DSD files of original dodgy 1980s compilation games disks? I'm giving a talk/video on video game cheating and disability, and would love to get an original or two to grab a screen shot from.

Thanks for reading,

Barrie

If you can read Solidisk DDFS multi-catalogue images, here's side A and side B of my BITD "Games 1" disk.

(640K of space with multiple catalogues meant I could fit a lot of games onto one disk!)

Looks like an innocent question, but maybe this is how the Federation Against Software Theft sting you. They just had to wait 40 years for us to incriminate ourselves!

Or for snitches to do it!

Suffice to say that Michael Brown is the pirate king, and he'll be going down for a very long time, based on all this evidence against him

:) Hoping they'll have bigger fish to fry.

Many thanks again. I've got what I need.

I've now got stuff from the early days of people strimming / sparking coin-mechs on early arcade games (this is the best video footage I could find): https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0jq9tWo ... dmasterFox - to compilation disks/tapes being swapped in the playgrounds etc. to the madness of modern day cheating: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RwzIq04 ... e=youtu.be

I shouldn't think there are many people who play video games who could honestly say they've never cheated though / never used pirate software. Maybe 1% of users at a guess.

Hi Paul,
thanks for posting those 2 discs of yours.
Have you got any more you could post.

In fact, has anyone got any discs they could post.
The reasons are that sometimes there may be a missing game on those discs, or a better copy.
Also a game may contain a missing loader or instructions or include author/company details missing from other versions.

Mick.

Whilst they might not be a full set of games (I may have deleted some of the more 'naff ones', here's a set of disks I mentioned in my post about what happens to your stuff when you pass).

Some of the later disks have screenshots with "CRACKED BY DIP" on them, but I should let FAST know they're out of luck on trying to get the person responsible (see that previous post of mine here).

Please bear in mind that when I tried to archive these using the DataCentre, some of them didn't read too well. On occasion I named a disk with an A or B prefix as I could only extract one side or another. If you get no success with those images it would be best to delete them.

I will be trying to archive them again at some point via the Greaseweazle.

Some of you may find this video on cheating of interest (scroll down for the "Bloody Cheats" YouTube video), especially so for the hunt the BBC Micro era bits: https://oneswitch.org.uk/page/cheats.

Hi Simon,
Thanks for posting your collection.
I have been able to find several missing games.
Also, some missing instructions for a couple of the game I have too.

Does anyone else have a collection of old floppies full of games that they can post here.
Also any old Replica III discs too as although they save the files as A.1, A.2 etc, they should at least contain all files of each game.

Mick.
