I've been lurking for a bit and decided to sign up to this excellent information resource. I don't have much Acorn experience other than at school many years ago. Educational of course; not just using the computer lab to play Droom and Granny's Garden, or gawp at the Lander demo on the mysterious Archimedes machine hidden in the corner.
Over the last few years I've been going through my retro computer collection and repairing/upgrading as required, and my attention has turned to the A3010 I acquired from a mate, going on ten years ago. I recently discovered it has an internal battery (I've got a lot of Amiga experience so I was horrified) and recovered it from the attic, but upon opening the machine up it looked a lot worse than it actually was. Luckily it was tilted in such a way that most of the leakage had gone onto the shielding rather than the components. Properly cleaned, one trace repair under the battery and the machine is running nicely.
I've got a 4MB RAM upgrade on the way and will be looking for an IDE podule.
In the meantime I've set up Arculator on my PC so I can familiarise myself with RISC OS ready for the real thing. It's a bit of a learning curve for someone used to Windows and Amiga OS but I think I've grasped the basics, I managed to install SparkFS and ADDFS, set filetypes and run some games without too much trouble (and with a little help from the forum!)
