SOUND EFFECTS rom by Gordon Horsington 1986

Post by Ukwebb »

Thanks to Tom Wrighty for saving a copy of Gordon Horsingtons Sound Effects rom from 1986
( this isn't the Watford ENVELOPES rom but similar)

Quite interesting in that it wants to use sideways ram ( the top half of its 16k space )
and complains in the *HELP message is ram is write protected

You can also select which channel to play the sound on by appending a number 1-3
so you can get multiple sounds over playing each other - handy for shots and explosions

oh and *SILENT is useful as many of the sounds repeat for ever!

It also includes an Envelope editor! ( *DESIGN )

I've not seen this on archive.org's lists or even at https://acorn.huininga.nl/pub/roms/Gordon%20Horsington/
so hopefully those guys will see this and upload it accordingly

Thanks for this ... but why is the ROM image only 5K? What you say suggests it's supposed to be loaded into sideways RAM rather than being an actual ROM.

Does anyone know anything about Gordon Horsington? There are numerous ROMs produced by him but haven't been able to determine whether they were commercial products or maybe released through a magazine?

BBC Model B: ATPL Sidewise, Acorn Speech, 2xWatford Floppy Drives, AMX Mouse, Viglen case, BeebZIF, etc.

Personally, only one direct reference on 8BS (http://8bs.com/history.htm) which states
"Gordon Horsington has allowed the release of anything by him to the Public Domain, he has written large amounts of text and software relating to the BBC. "

and a few articles here too : http://8bs.com/othrdnld/manuals/articles.shtml
BBC Bs, Master 128s, Master Compact, and Electrons, and an A3000 with an ARM3 :)

Gordon was a colleague of mine at a hospital in Cardiff in the 80's. He also did a lot of work for the BBC Teletext service.

I appear to have this ROM downloaded from the collection made available by Ray Harper.
