Cover Disc Game: Defender Clone, what was the name?

Post by RoboJ1M »

Hi,

There was a game I played excessively on my A3000 but I cannot remember the name.
It was a cover disc game, a defender clone and in between each level there was a block of text that told a story.
Compared to every other game I'd played at that point a game having a story was a completely new concept.
Not in the manual, not the description in a text adventure, but actual plot.
At the time it was an absolute revelation to me, even though it was nothing but a block of text in between defender levels.
But the discs and magazines are all long since lost and I cannot remember the name.

Can anybody?
Does a copy exist?

Thanks,

J1M.

I could only remember Provocator, which I thought was a Network 23 title for some reason, but was actually released by CTS:

"Provocator", Acorn User, October 1991.

Otherwise, I found a review of a double-game bundle featuring a Defender clone called Humanoids from CIS:

"Humanoids & Robotix", Acorn User, June 1993.

No screenshot of that one in the review, though. Maybe someone else can remember which game it was.

I think it was Archimedes World I had a subscription to.
As another of my favourite games was "Starch", which this forum says Archimedes World had on it's disc.
Also Spheres of Chaos was an AW cover disc game first.
Hopefully there's an archive somewhere?

Found an Archimedes Archiving Project forum:

I've reposted this question there, I'll update here if I find it.

I know this one, I think! There was a Defender-ish game on the AW November 1993 disc called !Crusader (or "Ace Crusader" as the full title was). I've attached a screenshot of the first mission.

You can find the ADF here on arcarc.nl!
