We could come there, I am sure we can club together to charter an ocean liner. Then we can all play with our Beebs whilst we are on the boat, and I those who have to work could still work-from-cabin during the trip, so it wouldn't even use up holidays.

That would be hilarious, the crew wouldn't know what had hit them if we all turn up demanding parasols so we can see our CRTs on deck.

Booked my ticket for the Saturday.

3 machines to bring (nothing exciting - just standard model Bs and a master)

For those who can't make it, I recall last year, some people managed to WAN bridge in... so maybe that would be doable in some cases?
(Does require extra hardware though.)

I did have some ideas about trying to make some networked software, but too much Real Life and procrastination got in the way.

It's on the plan and very much desired. The Museum Acorn team lead by Tom/Issue7 will be meeting this Wednesday to discuss prepping for the LAN party, and following this we will be making a few more event announcements, including "offsite Econets"...

I won't be able to make it to the event, but I'm happy to participate from my remote site. Will likely need some setting up and testing ahead of the main event, though, so do let me know if there's anything I can do to assist ahead of time.

I don't think I will be able to make it in person. I'm on another trip the two weeks before that.
However, my econet in Switzerland will be available for anyone to connect to. It is setup now and ready to function on a permanent basis.

I believe Chris is going to be there for one of the days and has plans too. Can we have the offsite connections co-ordinated somehow with the Museum Acorn team?

Yes, as one of the Museum Acorn team, I've been speaking to Chris and as mentioned we'll kick off the coordination of things after we've had our meeting on Wednesday.

Its like the shop window of Rumbelows...

Just a note, if don't want to bring your monitor to the party, we may have spare monitors you can use. Some of those in the picture actually work! Just drop me a PM or izzy.swaney@tnmoc.org and we'll try to get a monitor prepared for you.

If you are coming by train, Google reckons TNMoC is 11 minutes walk from the station door. Having walked it myself, I think that can be easily beaten, even with a Beeb under each arm! Drop me or Izzy a message if you'd like a lift from the station and I'm sure we can make arrangements.

Here's what the network will look like on the day. We've got five Acorn/SJ Econet Bridges available and we intend to use them!
Econet network map 2024.png
Note the position of the 'official' Pi Bridge has not been fixed yet - expect an update here soon.

Regarding network numbers, we intend to keep a board up with machine numbers in each room, so you know what is connected, and by who. If anyone wants to allocate numbers now - especially BBC B owners, please drop me a PM and I can start the list.

Here are the initial allocations:
Net 1 - Classroom (TNMoC machines only)
Net 2 - Meeting room (first net)
Net 3 - Hub room
Net 4 - Classroom (visitor machines)
Net 5 - Meeting room (second net)
Net 6 - Backbone

Net 17 - IanJeffray
Net 18 - jbredcar
Net 19 - jbredcar

Station ids
2.5 - friesian7
2.13 - friesian7
2.67 - friesian7
3.5 - friesian7
3.13 - friesian7
3.67 - friesian7

Tom
(Edit to start the list already!)

As I intend to bring a 'real' bridge (not a Pi) I guess we need to allocate/coordinate network numbers for sunchlike too ?

Do you need to borrow any more, Tom?

I have the Acorn one you used last year, plus an SJ Research one.

I will bring them along just in case.

Good idea! Numbers allocated above.

Be great to have them there too. If one of ours starts acting up, I may want to borrow again, so thanks. Otherwise, I have allocated you some numbers for the downstream side so you can have yours plugged in too.

Tom, I've got 5 double cat 5 socket boxes that can go on (enough for 8 or 9 machines as you'll need to terminate somewhere), plus a few more normal 5 pin socket boxes that I'll bring along, as well as a clock (like I did last time), and I'll bring the MDFS and have that in the meeting room (again, like last time) if that works? Don't have much in the way of CAT5 cabling, mind...

Hi all,
Looking forward to seeing you tomorrow. We've got a good turnout including some people I'd call 'Beeb celebrities' !

If anyone's still wavering about coming, come on down! If we run out of cables I have brought my soldering iron and a bag of plugs!

You can either book at Eventbrite https://www.eventbrite.co.uk/e/econet-l ... 3532547827 or ask nicely at reception on the day. Bring your own machine or use one of our beebs in the classroom.

Last week, we got out one of the ABCs. After some TLC work we got it working - but it died 10 minutes later. We've done a motherboard swap so hopefully we can connect it to the net and examine the hard disc. The B+ mobo that came out will also be on display... any advice will be appreciated.

We will also have the communicator out and hopefully connected.

On top of this... Econet record attempts, talks, computer auction and of course talking to each other and playing games!

There was a problem earlier which took the main TNMoC offline. That's been fixed. I think they are trying to connect the TNMoC network to the "central server" and thus to us and it does indeed seem down at the moment again.

That's been happening a lot during the week, the trunks can be as fast as lightening and then really troublesome.

This has finally given me the chance to test (and make work!) my IsNet code:
vlcsnap-2024-05-18-17h11m03s108.png
Seems we have 13 networks running. Which is mine?

Are we going for a world record number of Econet stations online at the same time? Might we get close to the maximum number of 32,258?

I believe you are not mapped to a whole network, but your machines will be mapped to network.station. So machines from multiple networks can be in the same pool.
WHOAMI on 127.254 will tell you your mapped station number.

Ah yes, it wasn't working properly earlier on, just reported local numbers and never responded. Then I got a not listening on the WhoAmI bit, but it's working now. Seems to be allocating station number 2 to each station with a different network number.
