What is the oldest expansion pack?

Post by bob147 »

In another forum there was a discussion about 1994's Sonic & Knuckles effectively being an expansion pack for Sonic 3 on the Sega megadrive. Obviously there are expansions for dos games that are much older (wolfenstein 3d for example). I further derailed the thread by suggesting revs 4 tracks in 1985!

So what do we think? I'd define an expansion pack as new content for an existing game that requires the original to play.

Wizardry 2 in its original release required a party from wizardry 1 which basically counts. Later releases removed this requirement.

1981's Super Missile Attack was an unofficial add-on for the Missile Command arcade cabinet - it had an interposer board that you plugged the original ROMs into, and added some extra game features.
