I have a question for you Matt. When the coin op part comes up, where you can choose to continue, is that what you really want to do or do you just want the game to end when you've lost all your lives. I think the challenge will be less if continuation of the game is allowed but.....what was YOUR intent?

I don't mind either way to be honest, been years since I played it and got that far into it, i'd forgotten it does this. So I guess it's up to you - allow continues or once the lives are up it's game over .

Maybe continues should not be allowed as basically the game will keep going forever , unless there are only a certain number of continues ? perhaps once game is over first time that should be it.

I think Nevryon was played years ago , what rules were put in place then ?

From the thread for the last time this was run:
FourthStone wrote: Tue Oct 09, 2018 8:49 am I read through the instructions and it says score gets reset to zero on continue so no advantage other than doing practice runs on that level.
As should be the case with continues in any game. Credit system would be super-easy to hack out of the game too, as the framework is all in BASIC :)

Looks like an interesting game but I'll be away for a bit more than two weeks so here's my starter and finisher score without using the continue option.

Here's a score from me. The game seems quite brutal at first and the ship seems really slow, making it really difficult to dodge incoming bullets and obstacles. I'm assuming everyone's playing on the default settings of -Timid- Medm and Level 1?

Interesting game, I've never played this before, I guess I was into the Amiga by 1990. Some dodgy collision detection, but I'll overlook that for what is a tour-de-force of coding on the Beeb. I guess each level is loaded from disc, even with compression of Pied Piper levels, there is no way it'd fit! I've been playing for an hour or so in-between so many other things I've got to do. Almost got to the end of level 3, only on my fifth go did I realise there is an auto-fire... A note on the "continues" they don't allow you to gain score, just keep your current level as level skip does anyway.

I think you're close though Rod to getting through level 1, just by seeing your score.

I did get through level 1, I think I remember this now......

Got to level 5 - score 30000

The high score in that pic should be disregarded - that was from me using the password to start at level 3 (and getting all the way to level 7 :o).

Played a bit more today and this is the best I could do before my fingers stopped responding  I have managed to see the beginning of level 6, a mere glimpse and it was all over #-o I think this is it for me, spare time is going to be almost zero for the rest of the week and I've still got four really squirrelly Beebs to fix...

Finally completed all 8 levels but the game loops and gets faster. I feel the game actually plays better at the faster setting. Levels 2 and 6 are the difficult ones in my opinion, the rest aren't too bad.

I had the game crash on me on level 6 too, trying to get a walkthrough of the first 8 levels on video (although someone's already done one on YouTube).

Congrats! I did wonder about that myself - if it might feel a bit smoother as a result. Rather than increase the in-game speed setting, I had tried cranking up the emulator speed instead.

Level 2 is pretty make-or-break and 8 seems like a bit of a 'mare. I had been full of trepidation going into level 7 but it's an absolute walk in the park - until the boss at least. Annoyingly, I couldn't get past that but, as soon as I jumped back to it with a password, I beat it first time

Am really surprised by the low participation in this round and the fact that, looking back, the scores were so low the last time this was played. Also found a thread from a guy saying how he found the game quite impossible :o

Anyways, here's my latest stab: level 8, score 55720

I'm not at all surprised as the last time the participation for this game was rather low too (only 7 players). I think many feel like the quote you mention here but with a little perseverance a person can definitely progress through this game quite well. I've only had a few plays and am well into the 2nd level.

My best score so far, managed to get onto the massive heights of level 2 !

I don't seem to be as good as I used to be at this one - I defnitely completed it years ago as I recognise the end screen.

It was a good game one of the last games I bought for the BBC before I switched to an A3000 and Nevryon on that out of this world for the time - and the sequel was good too.

It does seem very easy to lose energy very quickly and suddenly you have lost a life and back at the start of level !

Can't believe I missed Mr Ee, what a fool!

As for this game, have never played it before but am finding it super frustrating, by time I get a couple power ups I'm dead and have to start over.

What is the seceret, try to just avoid enemies until powered up a bit?

tbf I am still recovering from covid so probably doesn't help my willingness so not sure I'll have a score even worth posting for this game.

Try using auto fire. Holding down the <RETURN> key achieves that. That will help you improve.
