The date for the next ABUG is 10 to 12 November 2023. Booking will open closer to the date. However, you may wish to look for accommodation deals now as the price is likely to rise in the meantime.

There is so much wonder in the universe; why should you want to imagine that there is more?
Re: SAVE THE DATE! ABUG South 10 to 12 November 2023
alas again a weekend I can't do.
Re: SAVE THE DATE! ABUG South 10 to 12 November 2023
That's a really pity. It was the only weekend they had free in November.

Might be touch and go for me - there's a birthday - but I'd like to make it. Subscribing to this thread anyhow, so I can see your booking thread pre-announcement!

One question: is the hotel a cow and sheep free venue?

I suspect small lambs are welcome. But otherwise, only on a plate.

Re: SAVE THE DATE! ABUG South 10 to 12 November 2023
Is it ok to just come for just one of the days? I'd be interested to attend for the first time if it's not too far from me and maybe take some of my bits to show round.

Yes, no problem coming for one day. Saturday is normally the best individual day.
And please do bring your stuff.

I'll try and make it! I won't know for a little while if I can make it along, but I'm keen to see people again, and see what's happened since the last one I could make it to.

The event is held over three days, Friday afternoon to Sunday afternoon.
You will need to reply to the booking topic when it is put up later in the year (this is not a booking topic, just advance notice so that people can make arrangements for travel and accommodation).
I do hope that you will enjoy it. Hopefully I will see you in person!

I’m interested in coming for the day on Saturday. Is it OK to come even if I don’t have anything to show?

Re: SAVE THE DATE! ABUG South 10 to 12 November 2023
Hi,
I'm just getting back into messing about with my Beeb. I haven't been to one of these events so I have some questions if that's ok .
A. Is it too late to sign up?
B. Where is it? (I can't find it in this post).
C. How do I sign up? Does one need to join something/pay?
C. Is it ok to bring a machine and maybe get some pointers? I'm struggling with some basics after a long time out of it. Currently being defeated by three filing systems on my machine (all working but very confusing) as I try to image my floppies.
Sorry for all the questions.
Dan

Re: SAVE THE DATE! ABUG South 10 to 12 November 2023
Hi Dan,
We would love for you to come and take part.
Then in the ‘booking topic’, post saying which day(s) you want to attend. Yes, there is an amount to pay, to contribute to the hire of the room and the cost of the soft drinks and snacks. The details will be in the ‘booking topic’.
When you attend, there will be plenty of people who will be willing to help you.
If you want to ask any other questions about ABug, please do.
And you don’t have to wait, if you want help before the next physical meet-up, either open a new topic on the forum. Use the Discord server. Or join one of the video conferencing (virtual) ABug meetings.

No. This is not a booking topic, no one has signed up yet…
Same venue as the earlier ABug South meet-ups, details in this topic. Obviously the dates are different. And the number of places/attendees may be different.
When the organiser is ready, they will open a ‘booking topic’. I suggest you use the forum tools to ‘watch’ this topic for replies (subscribe to the topic).

Yes, you can bring your machine(s). However, we do ask that if your machines use Rifa interference suppression / class X or class Y or other paper type capacitors, that any original capacitors of this type have been replaced. These are used in Acorn BBC Micro, BBC B, Master and various other mains power supply units (PSU) for various computers. When this type fail, they let out lots of very smelly smoke. Not a good idea in a venue…

If you can book a suitable room to hold the event on a cruise ship, I’m sure that you will attract plenty of interest

Re: SAVE THE DATE! ABUG South 10 to 12 November 2023
Thank you Mark. I'll put it in my calendar. It's only an hour away from me too. I haven't been to any Acorn meetings yet although I've been meaning to, but I've been to quite a few Amiga meetings which are great fun and full of people helping each other out too. South West Amiga Group are a great bunch. Now I've started fiddling with my Beeb I think it's time. It was supplied refurbished by Mark Haysman some years back so I'm sure it has had all the dodgy capacitors replaced. There's clearly a lot of overlap with the Amiga world where recapping is also a must...
I look forward to meeting you all in a couple of months.
Many thanks,
Dan

Very much looking forward to this! Roll on the booking thread
Re: SAVE THE DATE! ABUG South 10 to 12 November 2023
Annoyed that I missed the previous event, especially as this place is pretty much walking distance from my house! I live in Yateley, which is at the bottom of hill from the A30. Will definitely be attending!
