You won't BELIEVE the *new* BBC Micro Games Archive..!!

Post by lurkio »

Sorry for the clickbait headline — my brain has been corrupted by social media. (Mods, feel free to change the Subject to "HELP required to test BBC Micro Games Archive on new server" if necessary!)

If you — yes, YOU — are reading this, then please head over to the test installation of the Complete BBC Micro Games Archive — it should look and feel and work exactly the same as the current live version of the site, but the test install is running on a new server, so please have a play with it and let us know if there are any problems or issues with the test site that *aren't* also on the current live site! Is the test version broken in any new ways?

Here's the link to the test site:

[Testing is complete. Link removed.]

Many thanks to Mark Moxon and Dave/Arcadian et al for setting this up!

"Here's the REAL reason this thread needs to be closed..."

... It's simply because testing has been completed. Thanks, everyone, for your feedback!

The upgrade to bbcmicro.co.uk is done, and hopefully the change will have been seamless and you won't have noticed a thing!

Many thanks to Dave/Arcadian, Mark Moxon, danielj, and the other incredibly skilled and helpful folk behind the scenes who made the upgrade possible and did all the hard work!

I'm a bit late but I've just been checking this and wanted to say a big thank you to everyone involved in creating the site - it's absolutely wonderful, and what a resource to have.

Great archive - thanks to everyone involved.

However... Safari on the Mac doesn't seem to display BMP images, which means the latest three games (Hopman, Tenebra, Laser Zone) don't show the screenshots.

Anecdotally judging by the internet, BMPs less than 24 bit colour are the problem.

BMP isn't generally a great format for web, as file sizes are usually much larger than PNG (e.g. Hopman is 329kb as a BMP, but 13k as a PNG).
