Sorry - checking my password with the last response. 
Crap how you have to enter your message before seeing if your password failed.. humph. 
 
You need to be a bit less subtle in opening the gate. 
 
If you had the required object you'd know what I mean.

Glad to see that the game I wrote way back in 1984 is still keeping people entertained! 
 
To get past the gate either make yourself smaller (by drinking the potion that you will find in Dwfnyr's lab (reached via the Muddy Maze) or blow it up with dynamite (which you will find in the forest, much later in the adventure).

Can some one help me get past the bloody gate, i have the amulet and can see the gate but i dont know how to go through, its just north of the cave of echo's
