Can't work out if the game resets after phase 5, I think I saw a higher score than this but I intentionally killed my fighter to see what would display...

Best score so far, I remember this one from back in the day.

A classic 1.99 from the newsagents, and hope it might be a little gem , unfortunately this one wasn't !

I always remember the last paragraph of the review in Electron User which said

"Galactic Patrol is less than impressive,if it was given away free with a box of Cornflakes, then I suggest you buy another brand!"

Yeah, I had this back in the day on the Electron and I remember it being quite painfully slow. I haven't, as yet, had the pleasure of playing the Beeb version but I'll probably download it tonight.

I'd probably go a little further than the Electron User reviewer and write "If this was given away free with a box of cornflakes, I'd burn down the cornflake factory". Yep, this game is a steaming pile of "doo doo".

Meanwhile, here's a starter score from me.

When I actually realised that you can hold down the fire button for auto-fire the game became a lot easier... DOH!

Anyway, I can say with complete certainty that I won't be getting any further than this (although that doesn't count out a slightly higher score) as the "deadly" Searcher (or, as I like to call it, the "flying space potato") on Phase 4 of level 5 actually moves faster than your spaceship so it's impossible to avoid. Way to go, Mr. Programmer!

My interest in this one is waning, below average game for the beeb in my opinion.

LOL
"Galactic Patrol is less than impressive,if it was given away free with a box of Cornflakes, then I suggest you buy another brand!"
yup, I'd rather go for the Full English (or Weetabix - or its several far cheaper clones)

I can't get past Phase 4 on Level 5, the red blob can't kill me when I move up, but it gets me as soon as I reach the top of the screen. I've tried three times and this is the best score. The scores are always around 15k -> 18k, I'm not even really sure what the scoring mechanism is :-k But one thing's for sure, this game is hot, steaming dogs**t, ladled with a red hot barbed wire spoon into my a**e. I thought Castle Assault was hideous, but this is worse. Far worse.

A portrait of myself playing this "game" #-o
shite1.png
I spent a couple of hours playing this over a long lunch and plateaued out at around 18k, I don't see how it is possible to get much more... [-o<

Yeah, the space bar may as well have a wire link soldered onto it  I got stuck at the same spot, I found moving up and right, the "space potato" couldn't get me, but once I got to the top corner, I was toast. A miserable excuse for a game and I'm never playing it again =D>

Hahaha yeah, I wondered if this was part of the Mastertronic 199 range. A friend's parents owned a computer shop, I was told about how they didn't like to demo some of the cheap titles as they'd mostly result in a "no sale" I have to dig out my Electron and try this "game", I am guessing it runs like absolute glue given the way it speeds up and slows down on the keyboard interrupt

Much better score, if you can avoid the green wall things, then it's pretty hard to actually get killed.

Managed to crack 20K. The flying slice of raisin toast got me in level 5 of course. This phase could be made reasonable if the raisin toast/baked potato, whatever it is, wasn't able to fly though the bits of exploding space garden trellis but had to chase you as you dodge between. Crazy to have a stage that can't be beat!

I think this will be my last go. It's as high as I'm likely to ever score (I think) given that there's no chance of getting past level 5, phase 4.

Managed to break 20K now as well, it's those green wall things which are a killer (literally) all other levels are pretty straight forward.

I concentrated much more on killing UFOs on the first wave and of course, remembering that I need to be at the bottom of the screen in the levels before docking, that got me a better score and that's it, I'm done with this. It did make me wonder what I could have spent £1.99 on BITD - that was the era of a Guinness being 70p a pint... Last time I had a Guinness it was £7 a pint, thus in beer (stout) terms, Galactic Patrol would be £19.99 now

"Sorry, the board attachment quota has been reached." I will attach the image when the mods have added some extra space (the default is 1G as I recall)

Score is 21815...
£7 a pint! I wouldn't like to live in your part of the world  In most places around here it's still under a fiver. I was too young to drink back in those days so I'd probably have to base my assessment of price change on crisps. Probably about 10p a packet then so call them about 70p now so the game would cost £13.93ish. The sad thing is that I did get suckered into buying this game as a kid but it was by no means the worst game I ever bought. A special fate befell the "worst of the worst" whereby, as kids, we'd rub a magnet over the tape and take them back to the shop to get a refund

I was too young to buy it, but not too young to drink it  (my inner Irishman) I did LOL at the waving a magnet over the worst-of-the-worst - that is cunning, if you got a refund, and not another copy #-o

Ok, so the room for me is also rapidly diminishing.......though I have more runway than you at the moment, Rod....and if I can only bring myself to play this again it should expand. Falling asleep during the game is quite possible.
