maniacminer wrote: Fri Dec 02, 2022 12:41 am The game needs an extra zero (unlike Last of the Free - that had far too many zeroes) for the score and some kind of punishment for letting the carrier pigeon reach the other side of the screen. Then on later levels, have multiple planes attack and drop parachute mines that sit on the ground and explode on contact, also have a limited number of shots, that slowly builds up over time, so you'd have to dodge without firing.
I agree, the game could use some way of increasing the difficulty level as you go on, otherwise (if you had better skill than I do) you can just keep playing forever. My best so far ... 63980

I lost concentration when I stopped to take a screenshot just before this score. Had a feeling that was going to be a bad idea. ](*,)

Well, the accuracy of the hits leaves something to be desired. After playing on and off for the last week I've managed to get a measly score, so measly I almost didn't register it, but will keep trying :D

The pigeon has to be hit pretty much as the bullet intersects the middle, so you need to shoot it a little ahead so the pigeon flies into the bullet, I guess a bit like firing a shotgun, aim a little ahead to get a shot. I find later on, the planes become super fragile, a single shot destroying all the planes and then I only get six pigeons

Not quite a million (In fact, nowhere near a million), but a decent improvement on my earlier score. Spent nearly 2 hours on the damned game in the end and it was stupid mistakes that got me killed due to lack of concentration. My score was 295950 in the end and I've taken screenshots from the video at roughly 100000 point intervals.

The video's up on YouTube : https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CpDlL-Ry9EM

High Score Tables Updated for Season 19, Round Five......

Well, I think this game was too easy for the more hard core gamers on here. I enjoyed it as a very relaxing style game, kind of one of my favourite types but it's not to everyone's taste.

Well, we have a winner and that is Venger. . As usual, with the exception of ManiacMiner, Venger blew the field out of the water with this game that repeats itself every 4 screens. Congratulations again Venger. =D> =D>

On a side note I'd like to thank all those who played this round. We had 10 playing this game this round so.....Thank you!!! It seems we are mostly averaging out at 11 so this participation is a bit below average.

As usual please check to ensure I've not missed anyone's scores because it's easy to miss things on this and I really don't want to do that for anyone's hard earned score.

Sorry to be a pain, but can you update the high score tables with my 100 points please? You've still got both of the high score tables as they were when I was in 2nd place. Wouldn't want to think that my 2 hour session was in vain  Cheers.

Better? Forgot to post the tables on both fronts after creating them. It's not a pain, it's my fault for not doing it right.....thanks.....

Ah, I missed this when it was the challenge of the month, but glad you enjoyed playing the fixed version.

After fixing the game I got to 99990 just to see (and presumably be the first to see) the score clock round to zero again . There is a dynamic in the game that ramps up the difficulty (and is actually the root cause of the fault the original had), but after level 3 or so it doesn't make any difference to the gameplay.

Back on the 'fixed' thread there was talk of adding another digit to the score, but I never got round to it. Andy Frigaard (aka Friga, the original author) was really enjoying rediscovering his old code and getting back into 6502 programming. There was a tantalising suggestion of a 40th anniversary re-release, and I know he was working on a few upgrades - multiple planes in flight at once, night-time modes and other things.

But...either he's working on it under the utmost security, or he's not had chance to progress these ideas. Maybe one day.

His repo of the original code, and various tidy-ups is available here: https://github.com/qurm/BirdStrike

Edit: Progress of new, improved and planned features in the 'Clean' build section: https://github.com/qurm/BirdStrike/blob ... notes.todo
