[ SOLVED ] : Twin Valley Kingdom:Electron - UEF - Cant find a good one
[ SOLVED ] : Twin Valley Kingdom:Electron - UEF - Cant find a good one
Twin Valley Kingdom 1983 Electron
I now have a pretty good setup for reading UEF's and writing to tape to rewrite the tape or create a new one where the old tape just wont work. And have managed to fixup existing tapes or write to a new cassette for quite a few of my collection.
But this one seems to be an issue. All the UEF's I can find of it all fail at one point or another. I've looked at the UEF resulting audio signal levels and generally they seem to look ok and the waveform looks generally ok. But all the UEF's I find have the same length which you would expect but they all fail too.
I wonder if anyone has a UEF for this game which is confirmed to be working on an Electron. ?
If so, I should be grateful if you could post it in this thread.
Thanks - Terry

Could you attach the UEF file here?
Re: [ SOLVED ] : Twin Valley Kingdom:Electron - UEF - Cant find a good one
Sorry,
Couldn't find a working UEF that would allow me to generate a workable audio tape.
Seems that this is not rebuildable without some real effort and I took a chance on the felt pad on the tape, and it paid off. I think in future I will try the pad, and or look for a UEF, but if that doesn't work unless its a really special game, I'm going to just bin them.
It's Just not worth the time and effort.

Re: [ SOLVED ] : Twin Valley Kingdom:Electron - UEF - Cant find a good one
Did you try and feed the waveform directly into the Electron, either from a computer or from a digital audio player of some description? Sorry if this was discussed elsewhere and I have overlooked that discussion.
Re: [ SOLVED ] : Twin Valley Kingdom:Electron - UEF - Cant find a good one
Actually directly into the ELK No. Didn't even cross my mind because. . .
The UEF was working ok on an emulator
I used the same method as I have used on other UEF's to generate the Audio from my computer on a line out. Play UEF - 8BitClick on local mode.
I tested the amplitude on the scope so I knew the correct settings on the computer, the waveform looked ok and I have used this method lots of times with no issues, but on this game it simply would not work. I also tried it on a different Elk so that's a rev 2 and a rev 4.
I also later got another duff tape and a BBC UEF version, and a brand new known good working Maxell tape, same issue
So, into the bin and off with its case !

I'm pretty sure I have an original copy of TKV for the elk which I'm happy to wav-ify if that's useful?

Actually, yes that would be good to give it a try if you have the time.
Thanks Daniel.

I'll see if I can find it. If my brain empties (which it frequently does) drop me a PM.

No problem, I'm sure you will remember.

Re: [ SOLVED ] : Twin Valley Kingdom:Electron - UEF - Cant find a good one
I have found that heating a cassette on a radiator will make it work better. Also winding it a few times and simply playing it helps. If the felt pad is missing I suppose it might be fixed but I've not tried it.
Re: [ SOLVED ] : Twin Valley Kingdom:Electron - UEF - Cant find a good one
I’ve replaced missing felt pads successfully by taking pads from broken donor cassettes. It’s not too difficult.

The bit the pad is attached to can fall off.
Re: [ SOLVED ] : Twin Valley Kingdom:Electron - UEF - Cant find a good one
Did anyone get a UEF of the Electron version? I have been playing the BBC version recently. I have made a map of the sloping maze
Re: [ SOLVED ] : Twin Valley Kingdom:Electron - UEF - Cant find a good one
That one says its modified.
Re: [ SOLVED ] : Twin Valley Kingdom:Electron - UEF - Cant find a good one
What about the one here?
https://wowroms.com/en/roms/acorn-elect ... 56022.html
It says 'download rom' but I've just downloaded it and it is a UEF inside a Zip and it says it's the Electron version

I think ROM is just a collective term used for emulated games, especially on those kind of sites.acorndave wrote: ↑Fri Jan 12, 2024 4:39 pm What about the one here?

Unfortunately the CRC-32 on UEF is the same

It's the same Electron one that's on StH but it's only "modified" to make the Save game work. The original save routines did not work correctly and caused the game to crash after saving a corrupted file; a modification was published in Electron User. Can't think why anyone would want the broken one...!

I probably discovered that saving doesn't work in the past.
