Escape From Jail

Post by melchett »

Anyone played this? Starting to wonder if it is a "joke" by the author - is it actually possible to get out of the first room?

Never played it but I think I will. There are some decent sized data files there so if it is a joke then a bit of trouble has been gone to.
I'll let you know if I make a breakthrough.
EDIT: I see it's a GAC game so that explains the files. So it could quite easily be a hoax...

Thank you - I will give it a bit more time, just 5-10 mins so far, just wanted to be sure as it isn't obvious.

Just managed to get somewhere. Examine everything, not just things in the location text but general things too.

Good to hear - will give it more time, thanks Fuzzel. I'm actually happy to hear that as it's a great theme for an adventure game.

Well that was a fun albeit short distraction.

He obviously spent a fair bit of time on the graphics in GAC. Quite atmospheric.

So it can be completed.

Well, I was finally able to make a little bit of progress! I managed to

Code: Select all

rknzvar ebbz
for want of much else to do, and was then able to

Code: Select all

gnxr jver
and

Code: Select all

cvpx ybpx
-- obviously! But I was stuck for ages trying variations on a theme of

Code: Select all

bcra qbbe
until I just tried

Code: Select all

j
! Perhaps that should have been obvious; but I didn't think it was particularly well-signalled. Bear in mind that at that point, by definition, the player has not yet moved, so there has been no indication whether or not such a step might be necessary.

Still, I suppose I'm being excessively nitpicky. At least one adventure back in the day (it might have been The Wizard's Challenge by Micro Power) required you to make the same spelling/grammar error as the author in order to solve it!

I do like how the graphics, in these GAC games on the BBC, can often have quite a "stained glass" feel to them.

I had to resort to hacking it in the end!

And, well, it should have been obvious, At least I have learned a little about GAC! It's a little bit similar to a less sophisticated version of the extension language I'm working on for AdveBuilder; which should have been called ABEL (for AdveBuilder Extension Language), but that acronym was already taken at least twice so I'm calling it YSON. (An obscure reference Neneh Cherry fans might get .....)

Yes it's a little frustrating and I was stuck on the last point too - I feel this should have worked:

Code: Select all

bcra qbbe
Beyond that it gets quite simple with one puzzle I worked out by chance - I ahem just happened to be in the right place and was trying if for another reason.

But hey it was fun. Hopefullly you managed to get through it.

If anyone wants more fun and frustration escaping from jail...
Why not try The SIGMA Experiment part 4 "The Charlie finale - part 1"
Here it is:
Disc999-SigmaExperiment.dsd
(400 KiB) Downloaded 38 times
(Best to use BeebEm and save your progress with the save states)

You do not need any knowledge of parts 1 to 3 to succeed, except that I have a strange sense of humour :D

Glad to here the series continues @leenew

Will download and experience what it has to offer - good to see it's "Part 1" so a promise of more to come.

Do you have a thread on this elsewhere?

I thought you had already completed all 5 parts? 🤯
I am shocked 😲
No new episodes at the moment I'm afraid.
I may do an entirely new adventure if I can think of a story as mind-blowingly superb as SIGMA 🤣

Lee
P S. I may need another lockdown to complete it though 🤷‍♂️

In fact, you should remember part 4....
Once you manage to get out of the cell, there is a sleeping guard 🤔
