Repton Instructions

Post by melchett »

I noticed in the Repton loader instructions that it states the following:
To view the map, you must pass over the MAP character during game play; the map is then seen whenever you press "M".
In the code there is no check for a special MAP character, indeed no character exists. The code just checks to make sure the screen is A-H and not I-L when the M key is pressed. I'm uncertain of the origins of those words, were they in the cassette inlay? Can the instructions please be updated to remove that?

That would refer to the Electron version, where the map character did exist.

Interesting that they are different, wonder why? The MODE 7 text for that BBC image is still incorrect though and should be updated.

Also looks like the text was sourced from here -> http://www.acornelectron.co.uk/info/ele ... ton-1.html

Hi,
Thanks for spotting this.
I have amended the instructions on my disc and sent a copy to Lee for uploading.

The instructions are now as per original BBC tape inlay.

regards,
Mick.

Another Repton instruction pedanticism: in the bbcmicro.co.uk loader for Repton 2 prerelease version, http://bbcmicro.co.uk/game.php?id=2419 we are told that 'The completed puzzle reads "REPTON 2 IS ENDED"'.

This would be true for the final release version, but in this prerelease, the puzzle pieces to the left of the starting area appear to say "COMPLETED" instead of "IS ENDED". So presumably the completed puzzle reads "REPTON IS COMPLETED", or something very similar.

That is correct, almost - "REPTON IS COMPLETE", with the opening level being red and not blue and there being a missing diamond on another level.
