Re: SOURCES: Missing BBC Games Help Required!
I'll have another look. Would it be possible to find out how these games came to be on the list in the first place? The persons alerting us originally may have some further information which would help.
Re: SOURCES: Missing BBC Games Help Required!
I think I said earlier (may be in another thread) that the missing games list (as I found it a few years ago) is made up of 2 or more lists cobbled together by Arcadian, PitfallJones and Crispin Boylan of Beebgames (I think).
Since then, it is me that has kept it updated.
I have added and scrubbed games from it as they were found, or if they were false entries on the list.
When you (fuzzel) started the "sources" advert thread then it spurred me and others to once again go trawling the magazines.
I think the list is now pretty comprehensive.
MISSING GAMES LIST: viewtopic.php?f=7&t=14458
One thing I have noted is that some of the games that we can't find adverts for only seem to appear in magazine lists of "available software", e.g. the one that appeared every month in A&B computing, or the Micro User software supplements.
This may be that some of the smaller companies never advertised in magazines?? or some of the entries are false?? Who knows?
Lee.

Re: SOURCES: Missing BBC Games Help Required!
I have a full set of A&B Computing magazines so I'm working my way through them to find any of the above missing adverts / possibly any new missing games. Just thought I'd better let you all know (this exercise is a tall order as it is without unnecessary duplication of effort).
Re: SOURCES: Missing BBC Games Help Required!
Thanks fuzzel.
I think we can safely discount using archive.org now.
Maybe all the missing ones will be in mags with a small online presence such as the recent Personal Computing Today finds...
**PS Shootout seems to only have been advertised for a couple of months.
Maybe it was terrible, or only worked on OS 0.1?
Lee.

STRINGER from ADDICTIVE
A&B Computing - January 1986, p31 One caveat is that there is no mention in the ad of which machine the game is for so it's a possible.

Re: SOURCES: Missing BBC Games Help Required!
Hi fuzzel,
I have checked 3 or 4 other adverts from Acorn User, C&VG and Your Computer and I think this game was only available for the C64.

Stringer as in to string someone along. I wonder how many kids were hoodwinked by that advert into ordering the game and parting with their hard earned pocket money.

I imagine that educational publications might be the best source of an advert.

Re: SOURCES: Missing BBC Games Help Required!
I've found this in the news section of A&B magazine 308 (Aug-86) Launch date of June 24th for other versions but the article doesn't make clear how far advanced the BBC version was.
Re: SOURCES: Missing BBC Games Help Required!
Ah, I wasn't sure if you were just collecting adverts. Yeah, no doubt that Quest Adventure Creator exists as it's in various collections, such as the Computing History one...

The purpose of this thread was to collect information, mainly magazine adverts, that confirmed the existence of games that we think were commercially released, but are missing from all known archives - so-called "Missing in action" or MIA games.
This list of games, which has been cobbled together from multiple sources over the years is here: viewtopic.php?p=192796#p192796
Also, these games appear on bbcmicro.co.uk and have a secondary genre of "missing" http://www.bbcmicro.co.uk/index.php?rt_ ... =on&sort=a
As you can see, we have quite a way to go before "The complete BBC Micro games archive" is actually complete
