All-day 'Virtual' Acorn session #10, Saturday 9th January, 9am - 11pm (GMT)

Post by Arcadian »

The monthly all-day "Virtual" ABug meeting for January will take place on Sat 9th January, running between 9am - 11pm.

I have issued calendar invites containing the Zoom logins to the majority of people that are already on the ABugEvents invite system. If you have received the invite and would like to attend for any part of the day, please 'accept' the invite to secure your place. If by Friday it looks like capacity is close to being reached, then I may need to cancel the invites for anyone that hasn't responded to the invite.

If you have not received an invite and would like to reserve a place, please respond in this thread. If you haven't already consented to receiving the Zoom logins in the form of a calendar invite sent via the ABug Google account to the email address you have associated with your Stardot account, please explicitly give your consent when posting. This will mean that the Zoom logins can be issued straight to you, without me needing to go back and ask for your consent. If you have a different email address associated with your calendar, please PM me to let me know the email address you'd like us to use. Or, if you would prefer to receive the Zoom logins via PM, please just say so.

The all-day events are more structured than the weeknight general sessions, but there are still opportunities for general discussion amongst the attendees so if there is something you'd like to talk about please post in the thread so the appropriate session chair(s) can take note.

Important Info

  • Please note that text chat within Zoom will be disabled during presentations (when a presentation is ongoing, it will only be possible to leave questions for the speaker [via the host] using Zoom text chat).

However you can use the #abug-chat channel on the Stardot Discord server to discuss active presentations. The Zoom text chat will be reopened after each presentation has finished. More info here.

  • During the Q&A sections after each presentation, we will initially only accept questions that have been typed into the Zoom text chat (always use the Zoom text chat to raise your question(s) if possible). If there is still time remaining within the slot we will accept questions from the floor, but please ensure your webcam/video feed is turned on ... or, if you are on low-bandwidth, please ensure that you have set a profile image.

  • Please create an account on Zoom in advance if possible (as this which enables the addition of a high-res profile image) and then set a profile image that would ideally feature at least your first name and/or forum handle.

Pre-created profile images are available here. If you're new to Virtual ABug events and would like a custom profile image to be created for you, please send a PM to Arcadian.

More info about why we request that you set a profile image is explained here.

  • If you've yet to attend a virtual ABug event on Zoom, Judgebeeb has produced a handy guide to take you through the process.

Ah I think I manually issued you with the previous invite via the ABug account, which would explain it.

Anyway, you should now have the email invite ... !

I'd like to attend. I won't be able to attend all day, but I'll try to be there for some of it.

My google account is a different address to what I have here...

Invite sent to Soruk.

I've also added a schedule to the top post, just waiting on final confirmation of the 8pm talk.

Note the morning demonstration (Beeb816) won't be recorded - so you will need to dial in if you want to catch it.

scarybeasts' slot at 10pm about his investigations into the 8271 floppy disc controller will be more of a QA as opposed to a full on presentation (as basically, his extended blog post already contains pretty much all of the information) so do check out the article if you haven't already and feel free to conjure up some questions for Chris on Saturday...

Sure no problem, are you ok to receive the Zoom logins in the form of a Calendar Invite sent to your registered forum email address, from the ABug Google Account?

I have made my presentation slides available for running in a suitable browser here, except that the 3D Graphics and Shader Programming demos aren't properly windowed. You can navigate using the cursor keys.

Indeed - thanks to everyone, a good day (although I did have to take a couple of hours out.)

I ran out of energy in the late stages of the evening, so eagerly awaiting Chris' 8271 talk as a video. (Not impatient though! I know it takes Dave a load of effort to polish these things up.)

Great day thanks everyone, sorry my "brownie points" ran out at midnight ;)
Thanks to the industry vet's, presenting and watching.
Apparently you can get a kit with the JROK to drive an existing Defender cab, which will then support other wiliams games too. I only mentioned this as Defender is one of the board sets most know to be hard to keep running, although I suspect Mark Haysman/Retroclinic could fix the original.

Thanks to all for the ABUG event yesterday.

The slides for the Beeb816 Talk are on line now and you should be able to play the short videos directly from the presentation.

Big thank you to Dave who was so helpful to me in preparing for my first ever hosted talk at the ABug! He gave me loads of useful information and helped arrange the pre-chat with Gary & Darryl ahead of the talk on Saturday. He was also on hand throughout for support - really appreciate everything you do to make these events what they are, Dave! :D

5 of the 6 talks were recorded and yes they'll be going online once they've been edited, though I do have a little backlog of editing to do at the moment (1 talk from October still to upload, 1 talk from November plus 2 'masterclass' videos).
