More adventure game BETA Testers wanted!

Post by leenew »

Hi all,
Here is part 3 of "The SIGMA experiment".
see here: viewtopic.php?f=32&t=19945&hilit=the+sigma+experiment
I got a good response when asking for help on part 2.
see here: viewtopic.php?f=74&t=20402&p=287823&hil ... rs#p286685

Here is "The BRAVO dimension".
BRAVO FINAL.ssd
(200 KiB) Downloaded 86 times
I will update the image above as I (we) go along.
**THE PROGRAM CAN NOW BE RUN ON A PLAIN MODEL B AT PAGE=&1300**

By all means play the game for fun, but what I really need is for the game to be heavily stress-tested.
Try anything.
Try and break it.
report back and I will do my best to fix any and all bugs/features.

If you want clues, or full walkthroughs, just ask.

It is best played using BeebEm in MASTER mode with a 6502 co-pro ticked. This puts PAGE at &0800.
At PAGE=&0800, the unpacked version can be played.
The file is just called "B".
the packed version "BPACK" should be able to be played on real hardware without a co-pro but the code is impossible to read.

Thank you all in advance!

A new adventure is about to begin...

Lee.

Well done Lee and Swedelia. You've managed to write your trilogy of adventures in double-quick time. I'm still on my second, but I suppose there are two of you ! :) You must be having as much fun programming games as I am. Can I ask if you're improving your adventure system with each new game? That's part of the enjoyment for me, my latest improvement is to include containers and I'm also looking at more advanced text compression techniques, to be precise Huffman coding, though my algorithmic tree for 80-odd characters is driving me nuts. Have you incorporated text compression in your game?
btw, Sigma Experiment, Bravo Dimension, Alpha Scenario? It's all greek to me...

Wow, another Sigma adventure! Thanks Lee.

I've played into it a little and it has a great feel to it. Hopefully I can retain my sanity this time.

However, there seems to be an anomaly when:

The feedback I got was that ALPHA was a bit more tricky than SIGMA so I dialled this one back a bit.
I don't want these adventures to be a chore. I want to keep the fun factor.

Once BRAVO is finished I will probably have a little break before I write the final instalment!

Glad you liked it.
I agree with you regarding the ending.
I will see if there's room to squeeze it in.
Oh and yes, the update from b6 to b7 was to stop you from Xvyyvat Jbyss!

Hi to all my testers.
Acting on feedback, I have improved the ending.
UPDATED to BETA10. (see first post).
I have made it a little more difficult.
Any more feedback is welcome.
Don't forget, I will supply a full walkthrough if you just want to try and find bugs.

There is one more surprise *IF* I can fit it in......
Stay tuned.

Hi testers,
Updated first post to rc1.
I have re-worked the ending be be less of a let-down (cheers Rod  )
It took quite a bit of time as I ran out of space and had to enlist lurkio to turn my baby-BASIC into a more compact (unreadable) version using his logic skillz :D
Seeing as I feel this is the first release candidate, any more testing would be greatly appreciated.
The game should be the same up until ...

Glad everyone seems to have enjoyed it :D
I have made one further update based on a comment by iamaran, who noted that:

lbh qba'g arrq gur gbepu gur frpbaq gvzr lbh tb guebhtu gur qhpgvat.
Nf ybat nf lbh tb gur pbeesrpg jnl, lbh ner fnsr.
Nsgre guvaxvat nobhg vg, V unir znqr gur fznyy punatr fb lbh QB arrq gur gbepu.

So I will leave rc5 as the final version, unless someone finds an almighty bug that everyone else has missed!

Which only leaves me to write the FINAL PART
The SIGMA experiment part IV - "The CHARLIE Finale"

Hi Lee,

A little late to this one, downloaded and played RC5 this morning and it seems rock solid although I'm struggling to complete the last step (I assume) and a little stuck in limbo.

So it is still up to you to find what you have missed!
