Aleph 1 Podule PC card software

Post by 8271 »

As the title says - I am looking for the Aleph1 software for an A5000 podule PC card. The RPC software doesnt work (despite some manuals saying that it might) - perhaps the code forked at somepoint before the version I have.

Thanks

I've got an Aleph1 386 card in my A5000, not used it for a while, but definitely have had it running Windows3.1 in the past. I'll dig out the software at the weekend if no one beats me to it.

I think the software is on Chris's Acorns: http://chrisacorns.computinghistory.org ... ml#PCCards

As Rob says, looks like the software is on Chris' Acorns, however you need to choose the correct software for the card, since the PC podule revision 2 (with a SIMM slot for RAM) uses a different version of the software, suffixed with "e", compared to the podule which does not have a SIMM card.

My PC podule doesn't have the SIMM slot, and turns out I have three different versions of the software on my HDD (v1.59, v1.72 and v2.03), all older than what's on Chris' Acorns (v2.06). So probably no use to anyone, but I'll attach here just in case anyone ever wants to experiment with old versions (also included !PCDir, as that was in the same folder as the software)... Now time to update my software to v2.06 :)

FYI, the Wayback Machine has archived most of Aleph One's old website.

http://web.archive.org/web/200406181344 ... index.html - user guides for PCPro and Network Links (RISC PC, surprisingly these aren't on riscos.info with PCPro itself)

http://web.archive.org/web/200406180358 ... index.html - PC Card software, RISC PC and Podule cards

http://web.archive.org/web/200406150026 ... index.html - Tech Support and information. There's a fair bit here I haven't found documented elsewhere, notably how to get Windows 98 going.

Enjoy!

Hi - Thanks for the help. I managed to locate the right software from the Aleph1 archive - I have the Elvis module (with Simm). Software installed and detected fine.

Just need to increase my A5000 HD size to build a partition big enough for windows.

Thanks again -

Which Elvis card do you have? It should say the Rev number on the board. Also what version of PC software did you use? V213p bring the latest available from Aleph 1 and buns a free upgrade?
