Weeknight 'Virtual' Dev session #3, Thursday 24th September 2020, 7pm - 10pm

Post by Arcadian »

As the new games and demo coding sections of the forum are currently very active, we have launched a new, weeknight "Dev session" on Zoom, that will primarily be focused on the development of new games and graphics/music demos for Acorn computers as well as development tools, emulators and debuggers.

They take place the week in-between the 2 x Tuesday night 'general' sessions on the Thursday evening, between 7pm and 10pm.

The sessions are intended for developers to share progress updates and request/offer help and feedback. We hope that these sessions will help motivate and encourage developers to see projects through to completion.

Just to be clear - these sessions are open to everyone: programmers, graphics artists and musicians, even if you've just got an interest/appreciation of - or ideas for - new games and demos, please come along for moral support - there may be opportunities to beta-test new versions of upcoming projects :). There really isn't a limit to the number of places available - well, the maximum we can host in a Zoom meeting is 100 but it's unlikely we'll ever get anywhere near that figure!

If there are any issues you'd like help with - or would like to demonstrate something - please leave details in the thread and we'll add them to the lists of items to be covered.

If you are new to Zoom, forum member JudgeBeeb has written a handy guide to getting set up and logged in.

Of course!

I would like to give a short update on my nameless game for the Acorn Electron.

I'm hoping to have a very brief show and tell, but no guarantee.

Ooops, yes, I'll be there tomorrow. No Masterclass from me this time though! (I have CRTC register programming and maybe Video ULA 101 on the backlog though.)

Looking forward to it ! :D

Zoom details issued to everybody who's posted in this thread so far.

Not much has been suggested in the way of subjects/demonstrations/requests for help - I don't see that as a bad thing, after all the last two dev nights have featured stacked agendas, so it'll be good to have plenty of breathing room and time for chatter at this one.

Still, if anyone would like to book a 15 min slot - to either show off a project, ask for some help, or even give a 'mini masterclass' on a programming topic of your choosing, please post in this thread and it can be scheduled accordingly.

Hi Dave, I think at least 3 people (tricky, Neil and myself) have suggested wanting to "show & tell". Not sure if each requires 15m but there you go!

Yep, I'd clocked those don't worry! :)

I just meant that we haven't got the whole 3 hour session fully pre-booked with slots, unlike during the previous weeks (btw I'm looking forward to seeing you or someone else complete the 'original' demo level of noname, which was a tad tricky! ;) ).

We'll still do the usual setup i.e. first half: help with projects, second half: project demonstrations (no masterclass this week either unless anybody steps forward in the next 24 hrs!).

Ah, I see. No worries then. I will certainly demonstrate the easy and the brutal demo levels!

I can bore people with my two basic sprites routines, but it's not a masterclass, just the last two routines that I have written.
