Thousands of colours (Acorn Electron)

Post by 0xC0DE »

Tired of only 8 colours? Then watch this randomized selection of thousands of colours on your Acorn Electron.
Works best on a real Elk+screen. Some colour combinations are near perfect while others are epilepsy inducing... :-&

EPILEPSY WARNING! Don't watch if you can't handle flickering images!!

Even better, try it on your own Electron and a (CRT) screen:

Nice! Although I'm never fan of flickering colours at 50Hz. I'm wondering though, would it perhaps be possible to make an effect similar to the 2-colour plasma from Twisted Brain?

Thanks Roland and Kieran! I can't stand the flicker either unless I watch it through my eyelashes

But... I am pinpointing the colour matches that work best (less flicker!) and putting them in a separate demo that is much easier on the eye.

A very nice effect, and by repeatedly pausing and unpausing the video I can see how you're doing it! I played around with rapidly alternating between two colours to create new ones last year. I found that yellow and white worked nicely, as did magenta and red, and a few other combinations, but that was about it. The combinations containing two colours with different intensities (e.g. white and red) gave my poor Cub monitor conniptions.

Very much looking forward to the improved version with carefully chosen colours! :)

New and improved! With carefully selected colour combinations this time. Now produces almost no flicker on a real machine.

Don't try it in an emulator because it won't look good. Red and magenta also work well but I decided that they would disrupt the "colour flow" too much in this example.
