Yes Please ... all day ... no kit :p
Can we list these as ABUG from now on ... took me ages to find this ... not in new or active posts ... searching virtual no hits ... searching acorn 3,000 hits ... search abug finds old abugs named "properly"
Cheers

Re: All-day 'Virtual' Acorn session #5, Saturday 4th July 2020, 9am - 10pm
Please could I be added to the afternoon and evening sessions?
Re: All-day 'Virtual' Acorn session #5, Saturday 4th July 2020, 9am - 10pm
We made a conscious decision to avoid calling them ABUGs. A number of people had got the impression that ABUGs were only open to 'members'. They are, however, listed under the new "acorn & bbc micro user group (abug) events" section of the forum which is limited to general FAQs and postings about upcoming events (past events being much more rapidly relegated to one of the past event sections).sPhilMainwaring wrote: ↑Fri Jul 03, 2020 4:58 pm Can we list these as ABUG from now on ... took me ages to find this ... not in new or active posts ... searching virtual no hits ... searching acorn 3,000 hits ... search abug finds old abugs named "properly"
You can opt to receive email alerts for new threads in the "acorn & bbc micro user group (abug) events" section. But, in any event, the current schedule is to have an all-day virtual session on the first Saturday of each month. There is also an evening session on two Tuesday's each month.
There is so much wonder in the universe; why should you want to imagine that there is more?
Re: All-day 'Virtual' Acorn session #5, Saturday 4th July 2020, 9am - 10pm
I am afraid that I am going to be only intermittently popping into this event as I have a lot of things going on tomorrow that will require my attention.

Please sign me up; I shall probably join for afternoon and evening.

(I'm guessing a fair proportion of people use mostly the Active Topics view of the forum... and this topic may have fallen off that list for a bit, and has now fallen back on.)

I've pm'd the meeting details to everyone. Let me know if I've missed you.

can you add me to the list?
not quite sure if I can make it. But try to make it from the afternoon.

Hi,
Can you add me to the list?
I'll be presenting the 9.15pm slot on "Connecting a BBC Disc Drive to the user port". In addition, hoping to battle the timezone difference and join from 4pm for some great sounding talks.
Cheers
Chris

Hi,
Here are the slide from my talk "Connecting a disc drive to the BBC Micro user port":
https://docs.google.com/presentation/d/ ... aAk1zheT6s
Apparently, the demo videos didn't have the best frame rate over Zoom. Here's a link to the main one where you can see the interesting data patterns on the screen: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mdvwFpZ_G2U
(links to the others are in the slides)
As always at these meetings, the presentation was followed by questions of an exceptional caliber. I liked the question about doing crazy things with the drive like stepping it in the middle of a write. As promised, I added links to a couple of drive specs at the end. The TEAC drive (generally well regarded for quality) explicitly defines what will happen: stepping with the write gate open is ignored. The Mitsubishi drive doesn't say so it might well work
Cheers
Chris

Chris, unfortunately I didn't get to see your talk but just skimmed the slides and watched the demo video - that is brilliant

I managed to watch most of the day, it was the first virtual meet I’ve been able to attend. Great presentations and chat from everyone, I thoroughly enjoyed it

Many thanks. Pity I ran out of steam and had to duck out before the disk presentation - looks really good!

I look forward to watching the videos, I'm afraid this one completely passed me by, though this time I couldn't attend but I don't want to miss any future events. Is there any way we could easily make a single announcement thread for these, those interested could then subscribe to that thread and not miss out?!

The all day vABugs are the first Saturday of every month, mark them in your calendar.
But yes we can look into creating a single thread which is bumped every time a new VABug is confirmed.

Video 3/8 now edited and online:
Untitled Dungeon Game – Work in progress demonstration (Chris Bradburne)
Unfortunately there seems to have been a Zoom glitch in the recording whereby whenever someone is asking a question whilst screen-share is activated, Chris' video feed temporarily freezes - no idea what might have caused this; perhaps a bug has crept into the latest version of the Zoom software(?), anyway - it's something we'll need to monitor in future. It doesn't really spoil anything, as the audio feed is fine*.
* = the only issue audio-wise is when Chris speaks whilst the emulated disc drive noises are operating in Beebem, the sound effects drown out Chris' voice a little. For future talks we'll probably advise that disc drive noises should be disabled within an emulator unless they're key to what is being demonstrated.
