BBC Micro Lives at ROUGOL / Mon 17th Feb 2020
BBC Micro Lives at ROUGOL / Mon 17th Feb 2020
At February's meeting of the RISC OS User Group Of London we are going back to our roots, as StarDot's very own jbnbeeb is coming along to talk all things Beeb.
BBC Micro Lives, presented by Jason Nicholls
Monday 17th February 2020, 7.45pm
The Duke of Sussex, upstairs in the Chichester Room
23 Baylis Road, London, SE1 7AY
(note new venue)
Jason is going to be talking about some of the new hardware upgrades that are available for the Beeb, such as SD card and USB storage, plus VideoNuLA and PiTubeDirect. He will also show recent software releases and look at how modern tools can be used to ease the development and debugging process. Many of these will be familiar to StarDot regulars!
It would be great if other StarDot members could come along and join in the discussions. Jason has not got all the hardware and software options, so opinions/comparisons from others that have used them would be really useful. If you are able to bring along any interesting hardware, please drop me a PM or email to discuss it so we don't have lots of duplicates.
I'm also sure Jason would be glad of the support, so he is not just talking to a bunch of puzzled RISC OS users!
More info here - http://rougol.jellybaby.net/meetings/index.html
ROUGOL's new venue is easy to reach by public transport from in and around London and the south east, being only a couple of minutes from Waterloo station. Parking is available outside the pub, on Coral St, from 6.30pm.
Entry is free, food & drink plentiful (but not free!).
Bryan.

Re: BBC Micro Lives at ROUGOL / Mon 17th Feb 2020
Doh! I really wanted to come along to this one to support Jason and chip-in with some of my own BBC exploits. Alas it falls during the school half-term holidays so my wife has already booked us to be away for a long weekend. I look forward to hearing how it goes and what the RISCOS folks make of everything!

Shame you can't make it Kieran, but hopefully others will chip in instead.
Judging by your thread about Archimedes development, you'll soon have your own ROUGOL slot anyway

Re: BBC Micro Lives at ROUGOL / Mon 17th Feb 2020
Hi everyone,
A reminder.. I'll be at Rougol meetup this coming Monday to present my BBC Lives! talk. I'll be showing people the basics of getting a Beeb up and running in the 21st century .. And showing off PitubeDirect and VideoNULA.. DOOM will be getting an outing as well as recent games and demos from Tricky and the Bitshifters collective.
It would be great to see some fellow Stardotters..
So if you fancy Beebs and beer to cheer up your Monday evening, please come along!
Cheers,
Jason

I'll be there, happily beebing
Re: BBC Micro Lives at ROUGOL / Mon 17th Feb 2020
Looks like we will have a couple of Masters along, with MMFS, Gotek, BeebSCSI, VideoNuLA and PiTubeDirect.
Plus we will have BeebEm on Windows, B-Em on Linux, and of course BeebIt on RISC OS!
So there should be plenty of ways to play your favourite game

Great, look forward to seeing you
I've also just had a call from someone saying they are bringing along some equipment that they don't think anyone will have seen before. Mysterious!

Forgot to let everyone know that the slideshow from Jason's excellent talk is available on Google Docs - https://tinyurl.com/tx8njp6
In addition to the presentation it contains an excellent set of links to info on all the software and hardware options mentioned and more. This could probably be extracted into a very useful sticky post somewhere on StarDot?
Thanks again to Jason, and to the others who brought interesting bits of hardware and knowledge along

Re: BBC Micro Lives at ROUGOL / Mon 17th Feb 2020
It really was an awesome event. Jason did an excellent job of explaining (and demoing) what the Beeb can do in the twenty-first century. And it was great to see some new faces there too.
There is so much wonder in the universe; why should you want to imagine that there is more?
