Big Ben Club annual club day 16 May 2020 - PHYSICAL MEETING CANCELLED

Post by TimoHartong »

Due to the new measures of the Dutch government, it has been decided with great regret that the annual day has been cancelled. At this moment the possibility of a virtual annual club day is investigated.
The Big Ben Club will hold their annual day again on May 16th, 2020 between 11:00 and 16:30 local time. The venue:
wijkgebouw "De Vuister"
Molenwerf 44,
1541 WR Koog aan de Zaan
52°27'33.25" N 4°47'57.40" E
The admission is free and drinks are available at a modest sum. Although the full program is not available. Most likely you can see the following things:
- ACW
- Filestore with working SCSI2SD ( Solid-state SCSI )

I don't dear to tell we don't have the system where you have to make a reservation. Everybody is more than welcome. Including non-members from the Big Ben Club. So I hope on a lot of visitors Dutch and non-Dutch

Hi,

perhaps -B- (Neil) likes to visit this event?

He lives pretty "close" to that address.

Greetings, Wim... :-)

Am I correct in believing that Station Koog aan de Zaan is about 15 minutes by train from Station Amsterdam Centraal and that Buurtcentrum De Vuister is about a 10 minute walk from Station Koog aan de Zaan? If so, I may well come.

Even though it is billed as a RISC OS eXperience, would there be interest in my bringing my replica Atom along?

Oh yes sure. I am also bringing my FPGAtom.
There will probably more 8bit computers.

@Timo: can you reserve some tables for us?

I already had a small conversation with Timo about bringing Atoms. He said we're welcome with our Atoms.

Probably there will also be a filestore, a BBC-B and a Master with Econet. I think I'll bring also an Electron with the MGC (tied to the Plus1  ) if space in the car boot permits. My wife and daughter will go shopping in Amsterdam that day so I have to reserve some space for our way back home

I am really sorry, but I don't think I am going to be able to go.

I was hoping to combine it with a long weekend in Amsterdam for me and the Mrs. I was somewhat surprised that all the hotels I was looking at seemed to be charging double their normal price and some were already showing limited availability.

I have now discovered why... This is the weekend of the Eurovision Final in Amsterdam. The City is going to be packed full of tourists and I don't think it will be a very pleasant time to visit.

Hmmm.... the Eurovision Song Contest is in Rotterdam. Nevertheless it will also bring many people to Amsterdam. I don't know if Mrs Roland and my daughter want to visit Amsterdam on such a busy day.....

Yes, a very good idea. Every Acorn computer ( or its replica ) is welcome. Most welcome

Sorry Timo, having now seen that this is the Eurovision weekend (even if it is in Rotterdam and not Amsterdam) I am reluctant to come. At the very least, all the hotels I usually book with seem to have doubled their prices.

I would love to come another year.

I will also bring my Master with PiTubeDirect, multiOS, datacenter and gotekdrive and a working econet including the Econet Bridge and as said the restored Acorn Cambridge Workstation (ACW) and the FileStore E01 & E20. Timo will bring his A5000, and some other rare Archies that will also be hooked up to the econet.

I'm thinking about the Beeb with the Beeb video digitiser to make retro portray pictures for people that want to have a 8 bit digital picture of themselves. Just for fun. A picture like that ignited my Acorn hobby back in the day :D
Kind regards, Bas

On the topic of 8-bit digital cameras: yesterday, while wiring up my old Super Nintendo for my kids to have some fun, I decided to plug in my Game Boy Camera (using my Super Game Boy adapter).

Back in the 90s this grainy black-and-white camera may have felt like the bee's knees, but its photographic capabilities really haven't aged well. I can't believe that I actually managed to do stop-motion animation with that pixelated pinhole camera!

Hi Timo,

I'd like to attend as well, if there's still room available. I'll be coming by public transport so I won't be able to bring much. I'm thinking an electron with an AP5 and a laptop running rpcemu. I'll probably bring the omni laptop as well. It doesn't run RiscOS of course, but it is nice and small.

We just make space for you all ;-). So good and nice to see all these retro machines be at the annual day. So, in brief, we have the following guests:
- Mark. Perhaps I should also bring a nice CRT as well just in case
- oss003.

Indeed. Only an hour away depending on traffic.

I could bring my Atom and maybe my Elk.

Neil.

Hi Kees, ofcourse this is okay. It would be great to meet you. The whole event is about bringing Acorn/RiscOS enthousiasts together and have a nice day. If you have an econetcard on the Atom that would be very nice to see :D
