Acorn World and ABUG meetup, Cambridge 20-22nd September 2019.
Re: Acorn World and ABUG meetup, Cambridge 20-22nd September 2019.
A few pictures of my setup. The good news: I can "start" Linux on my FPGAtom:
The bad news, there's still a lot of work to do on the terminal emulation. In vttest only the exit option works good:

Meanwhile, next door to Roland, I am dealing with a beautiful exploded RIFA specimen.

Luckily I was not in the neighbourhood when they exploded

Luckily none of these people were any the wiser about possible exciting capacitor situations:

Hi
I am visting the Museum for this event on Sunday, I get stressed about parking. Ideally I would like to arrive mid-day. Will it be likely parking will be available at the event this time ?
Best Regards,
Paul

Yes, there should be no problem with parking. So no need to worry.

Re: Acorn World and ABUG meetup, Cambridge 20-22nd September 2019.
At the absolute worst there would be parking available over the road in the retail park.
Re: Acorn World and ABUG meetup, Cambridge 20-22nd September 2019.
This afternoon, Judgebeeb and I were talking about the Atom issues. Not problems or so, but we both never heard of - or even saw - a pcb board other than issue 4 or 5. And this evening, during the talk of Alex van Someren, we got this in our hands
After the talk and the pizza I had the honour that the Author of the BBC version of Snapper, Jonathan Griffiths, played Snapper on my FPGAtom
He was really impressed about what we are doing nowadays with all those Acorn machines, from running Elite on the Atom to playing Doom and Prince of Persia on a BBC Master.

Shame I couldn’t make the talks, does anyone know if The museum are going to put up on their you tube channel?
All going to plan I should be there this morning. Then I just have to remember who I am giving stuff to, and who I am collecting from. Hopefully not to be bring home more than I left with, but looking like that could be tight.

They have recorded the talks and I also hope (and expect) that they will be shared online.

Yes, that's an unique board..... but I always wondered what the differences between the several issues were besides the keyboard .....
It looks very familiar with an issue4 or 5 board.
Greetings

Didn't some of the earlier issues not have the jumpers to bypass the regulators? Could ask Charlie to check his issue 3.
Cheers.
Phill.
Re: Acorn World and ABUG meetup, Cambridge 20-22nd September 2019.
That right Phill, On the photo's you can see that there are no jumpers or links near the voltage regulators.

Just wanted to say a huge thanks to jbnbeeb for an organising an awesome weekend. It is clear that he put in a lot of effort, making the arrangements for the display in the main hall, making sure that we had a good time and for arranging those fabulous talks. It all clearly paid off as everyone was having a good time.
It was good to see such a big turn out in the museum and I had great fun talking to many new faces. Clearly people were interested in what we are doing.
Definitely one of the best ABUGs I have been to.

There is so much wonder in the universe; why should you want to imagine that there is more?

Likewise! Great weekend really good vibe, enjoyed all 3 talks, the pub Friday, getting a copy of Spy Vs Spy (Thanks Chris), seeing Knight Orc running (looked fantastic), getting b2 running on my Linux laptop (Thanks Tom), seeing a WIP VideoNULA version of Mountain Panic (lovely rich characters) as well as meeting people (new and old) and seeing what they're up to!
Many thanks to all involved!
Re: Acorn World and ABUG meetup, Cambridge 20-22nd September 2019.
Was good as usual. Thanks Jason and all. Only trouble with just doing Sunday only is it seems to be time to come home not long after getting there.
Hopefully by the next one I will have the FPGA doing something more impressive than counting in a seven segment display.

I turned up early on Saturday morning and have the same feeling :S The weekend shot by. Great to see people again and meet some new faces. Thanks Jason
Re: Acorn World and ABUG meetup, Cambridge 20-22nd September 2019.
Here are some photos!
Starting with a trip to perhaps the best shop in the world...
Doom running on a BBC Master!
And I found the famous Peter Bondar RiscPC Pizza Oven!!!!
And yes... 486 cards do the cooking!!
The talks were brilliant!
Some digitising of tapes..
And my Acorns in Broadcast at the BBC stand.
And a Government warning on the effects of smoking.. .. I mean battery corrosion and exploding capacitors on a poor RiscPC...
And sadly, the end. Looks like the house when you take down the Christmas Decorations.. Thanks so much to Jason for a superb fun event!
Paul.

Would have been there but it's just too long a swim.....oh, and we had our ABUG Canada West meeting on the 21st too so was going to be difficult too.
Great pics, always good to see them and it looks like the ultimate goal was achieved which is people had sweet Acorn fun.
Don't know how that z80 processor got in there though, is there no security checks at the door?
Great job guys,

Oh and not forgetting Roland's excellent badge efforts. I gave the plastic cases and lanyards back but bad off with the paper bits.
Re: Acorn World and ABUG meetup, Cambridge 20-22nd September 2019.
I'm really disappointed I missed the meet, but I have a 7:30am start all this week, with ridiculous amounts of driving, so I didn't see how I'd be awake enough to manage.
In fact, I really should be going to bed...

Completely forgot about this until just now: I ended up paying for somebody's fish and chips at the pub on Friday, as I was the last one to leave and they were a payment short. Does anybody remember leaving without paying?
