ABUG SOUTH 18 to 20 January 2019 (Hampshire) BOOKING THREAD

Post by JudgeBeeb »

This is a relatively large venue. However, it is going to be well attended and we are probably pretty much at capacity.

Please can I ask those with little or not kit either to make sure they are only occupying half a table or, better still, form a group on one of the round tables.

Thanks.

I’ve arrived. Waiting for the next person to arrive to help arrange the tables.

Meanwhile, treating myself to fish and chips in the restaurant.

Sadly, I don't think I'll be there today, as I'd planned. If I can get away I will, if not I'll see you all tomorrow morning!

I was meant to be arriving today late evening, but had to go on a business trip last-minute so I'm now planning on Saturday before Noon. Many apologies. But looking forward to Saturday and Sunday!

We start (with breakfast) at 8am each morning.
We are pretty much at capacity this weekend. How much kit are you planning to bring?

Have fun everyone!

I was going to go just for today, but I'm still recovering from the epic cold from hell, so I need some rest. Maybe next time...

My thanks too to Robert for organising this. Sorry that I couldn't stay longer but it was good to catch-up with people.

Stunt Car Racer is looking amazing - so smooth and really shows what the Beeb is capable of. Already looking like the best 8-bit version :D

Had fun uncovering the problem with Alex's Beeb and was really glad that we got it working again. Thanks to all who provided help, kit and parts!

Also, it was great to finally meet Kees and see the incredible work he's done on porting AGD games to the Atom.

Hi guys,

Home again and enjoyed the meeting.
Thanks Robert for organising the ABUG, had a great time and inspiring chats. Even finished a few things I had planned for the weekend .... :)

Greetings
Kees

..and a big thanks to Robert from me too. It was a great meet up as ever; there were so many people I don't think I got to have a chat with everyone but I did try :)

Great to see old and new faces.

I actually managed to make some progress in hacking Beeb-em to debug my still-not-bloody-ready-game .. Big thanks to chrisn who helped me to properly configure the build of Beeb-em on my Windows laptop and also fix some bugs I was unwittingly creating with my naive attempts in C.

Cool as ever to see some fantastic projects in progress - sneak preview of a great game conversion, a BASIC compiler and further developments by Tom on the B2 emulator to name but a few.

Here's looking forward to the next meet up.

Thanks,
Jason

I am glad that everyone had such a good time and that we had such a good turn out (including a few new faces - which is always a good thing). It is always you guys (and not the organising of the event) that makes it such fun.

I am planning a return visit later in the year with extra Haribo and chocolate biscuits, more snake related shenanigans and, hopefully, my breaking fewer things.

Had a great time at ABUG. Met some new people, and also totally failed to chat to several people I'd intended to say hello to! Confirmed all my external CoPros are working, got my internal RaspPi CoPro up and running, actually made use of a Cub for the first time in, ooh,30 years? ... and did a few other things as well. Didn't manage to get any coding done but all in all a good weekend!

Special thanks to sbadger for helping me recap some PSUs (let's be honest, he did most of it), and Prime for taking a look at my Atoms.

I'll add to the various thanks to people, names of whom are completely gone from my memory. This was my first time so far south, so thanks to Dave for the lift down. Other Dave for updating my PiTube after I pointed out where the PDP11 was likely to be going wrong. Ian for fixing my A5000 (corroded SM IC). Chap with beard (sorry!) Phil! for lending a video and power cable, and Ian for a phono-BNC adapter so I could plug it in! The hotel for supplying milk when we ran out, and letting me snaffle some steel teaspoons to avoid that delicate taste of melted plastic. :)

Plus Mark RetroClinic for fixing my Master the day before I came down! The MOS ROM had burnt out, it obviously didn't like being a Mask ROM and wanted to be a Fuse ROM. ;)

It's just occurred to me that I completely forgot to return the 4-way power switch with the long cable to the person who lent it to me, whose name, embarrassingly, I don't know! They seemed like someone who was involved in organising the event or at the very least someone who had come very well prepared! I'm really, really sorry! Did you get it back? If not I will buy you a new one plus several beers at next ABUG!

Thanks to Robert for organising this, and a very good choice of venue. Looking forward to the next one!

Next time, I'm going to have to remember to come with nothing to do, as the conversations have once again proven far more rewarding than whatever actual work I managed to get done ;)

Cheers to Robert for sorting out the event, and for all the people who were kind enough to peer inside my dead A5000, especially Ian and Matthew. Very nice to meet lots of Acorn chaps, with a quite intimidating level of smarts on display. Learnt a lot of things, picked up a handy screen mode from Tom and consumed far too much pub grub and Fosters. If you do another one of these, count me in!

Cheers,

Robin.
