Re: Missing Magazines from the 80s
Hi,
There are a few issues of "Popular Computing Weekly" missing from archive.org
Does anyone have volume 5, issues 34 35 36 48 or 50?
(21st August, 28th August, 4th September, 27th November and 11th December 1986).
Or volume 6 issues 1 to 6 (January and February 1987)
Or, volume 6 issue 19 (15th May 1987)
Lee.

Re: Missing Magazines from the 80s
Hi,
Does anyone here volunteer an the museum for Computing History?
I nees some decent photos of Popular Computing Weekly volume 4 issue 18 - May 2nd to 8th 1985
Specifically - page 18 "Horse of the year". The archive.org scan is poor and I am having difficulty sorting the listing. - file HORSE
**The game basically works, but "Player 1" and "Player 2" are getting confused somewhere.
The listing uses the variables p% pl% and maybe p1% which may be the cause of the confusion?
The reference number is CH28789
Thank you,
Lee.
EDIT: After receiving a better quality scan, I have now fixed this game.

Re: Missing Magazines from the 80s
I don't know if any of the games in here are needed but the June 1984 edition of Games Computing has just been uploaded to my website. Link in the banner below.
Re: Missing Magazines from the 80s
Thanks John,
We actually had all the games but it is nice to see the magazine.
I will have a quick read through the 3 games and check ours are bug-free when time permits.
Only 2 issues to go now!

Does anyone have "Computing Today" magazine from September 1985?
The computing history museum has a copy: http://www.computinghistory.org.uk/det/ ... mber-1985/
I am wanting a scan of the "Cribbage" article.
I have part 1 from July, and part 2 from August and I assume the September issue holds the final part.
Thank you,
Lee.

Hah!
I thought they finished with July 1985. Have to update my website.
If anyone can help Lee with the scan would they like to scan the whole magazine, pretty please?

Re: Missing Magazines from the 80s
Not sure if they're still needed, but since this thread was first thing that popped up when I googled the magazine... Figured I'd mention that I've uploaded July 1984 and March 1985 issues of Personal Computing Today to the Internet Archive, in case anyone needs them. Those were the only issues I had, so there's still quite a few unscanned.

Re: Missing Magazines from the 80s
Hi
Does anyone have Personal Computer World May, June, or July 1987?
They are on ebay at the moment but are fairly expensive with starting bids at £9.99 plus £3 postage each
There is a good possibility they contain missing Beeb type-ins...

Re: Missing Magazines from the 80s
I do!
Looking at Program File:
- May 1987 has "BBC Interrupt-Driven Breakout" and "BBC Cover-up" (both games), some "BBC Hints and Tips" and "BBC Mandelbrot Wallpaper"
- June 1987 has "BBC/QL Solitaire" as "Program of the Month"
- July 1987 has "BBC Artwork" (a drawing program), "BBC Assembler Tips" and "BBC Drop-Out" (a game)
Re: Missing Magazines from the 80s
Hi
From my point of view I am interested in any GAME listings from these magazines to get them uploaded on bbcmicro.co.uk.
All I need are decent mobile phone photos of the game articles and listings so I can type in the game and any instructions.
An added bonus would be to get the magazines uploaded to archive.org but this is time consuming and entirely up to you!!
Archive.org is missing all 1986 and 1987 Personal computer world magazines....

Re: Missing Magazines from the 80s
OK, here are some mobile phone photos of the interrupt-driven breakout game from the May 1987 issue - are these good enough? It's surprisingly hard taking these photos and having them readable - although easier than scanning, as I don't want to slice the pages out and the curve at the binding causes problems, which I'm guessing is why you said photos...
https://www.dropbox.com/sh/ygebb6n33u9y ... y3i3a?dl=0
I won't leave these on my Dropbox indefinitely so please keep a copy if they're useful. If these aren't any good let me know and I'll try again, if they are I will look at doing some of the other programs.
I'm tempted to try to scan the whole magazines but it does look like a big job and I rather doubt I'm going to get good enough quality for it to be really worth the effort...

Re: Missing Magazines from the 80s
Thank you, they should just about be OK.
I am away for a few days so I am only looking on my phone.
I will take a better look when I get back early next week.
One little tip is that you don't need to take a picture of a full page. Zoom in closer and take a few photos for each page of the listing.
For scanning a thick mag, don't you have to chop the spine off and separate each page? That may not be something you want to do

Re: Missing Magazines from the 80s
Thanks for the tip. I've had another go at this and added some more photos to that Dropbox folder. Maybe it would be better if I took the photos in daylight, I'm not sure - the listings aren't always terribly high quality even in the actual magazine, though.
Anyway, when you get back see what you think of these and I can always redo any which aren't good enough.

Re: Missing Magazines from the 80s
Hi Steve,
I am back at the beeb.
Those photos are spot on, thank you.
If you could upload the other games listed below whenever you get time, that would be great!
March 86 - Cave
July 86 - Decelerator not a game.
August 86 - Chasm
August 86 - Sponge not a game.
May 87 - Cover Up
June 87 - Solitaire
May 87 - Interrupt Driven Breakout
July 87 - Drop Out
August 88 - Logic
**I only need the above articles if they are GAMES as they are for bbcmicro.co.uk**
Thanks!!
Lee.

Re: Missing Magazines from the 80s
Hi Lee,
Thanks for taking a look at that.
I will do some more photos over the next day or two. "Cover Up" from May 87 is in that Dropbox folder already - if you can't read the photos or something is missing please let me know.
Cheers.

Re: Missing Magazines from the 80s
I've added some photos of Cave from PCW March 1986 to that dropbox folder - please note there are duplicates of some pages, so please don't struggle to read the blurry versions. (I thought I'd better leave both versions up in case the blurry versions were clearer in parts.) Let me know if you need any photos redoing.
Cheers.

Re: Missing Magazines from the 80s
Nice work! I'd somehow assumed the interrupt-driven breakout would be in mode 7 to give maximum memory for the "foreground" application. I'm vaguely tempted to try to implement a mode 7 version myself, but I probably won't.
I've added some more scans of July 1987's Drop-Out to that Dropbox folder. I hope they aren't too eye-searing, let me know if you want me to redo any of them...
