I was hoping danielj would help read the discs I don't want to put in my disc drive. Anyone else willing to take a punt on some slightly dodgy looking discs?

Im not going to be able to make the whole weekend (Sat Only) but can I ask that Anyone that is going that owns any Domesday / AIV laserdiscs please bring them as I am bringing a Domesday Duplicator and a big hard disc.

We are hoping to get as many samples as possible from different discs to allow error correction between the copies to remove any chance of Drop-outs / Scratches being in the same place on all discs!

The software is not in place yet to merge the samples but there is some great decodes from a single sample of a disc. Would be good to find out if the state of the signal varies greatly between copies.

If you want your own personal copy of the sample (OF YOUR DISCS) then please make sure you have ~220GB per hour of LD... on a USB3 HDD.... USB2 is far too slow for this sort of transfer!

Shame, I was going to quiz you about setting up a couple of gotek's, I guess I'll have to put in a bit of effort and read the web pages.

I have goteks working on the 8-bit Acorns and A3000.

Excellent, I plan to add a gotek as a second drive in a A310, which should be little different to your A3000 setup.

I will have some more IDE interfaces with me for anyone that needs one (8 & 16 bit). As usual any left over will eventually be listed on *.

I'm happy to bring my KryoFlux if it will help but don't have a drive that I can bring easily and it will be the bare board and PSU (You would need a laptop with the software which is freely downloadable)

I shall have a Gotek with me and can bring a Kryoflux too.

Don't know how to use the Kryoflux properly yet but am willing to observe and learn.

I have a drive and will have my laptop with me. My concern is whether the gunk on the disc will clog up the head on the drive. I notice I have already read one of the discs OK so maybe I will be all right?

Check the disc surfaces - if there's mould, clean them, if they're "gouged" then don't use them as they will defo gunk things up.

Here is the surface, It doesn't seem too bad...

By gouged, I assume you mean the magnetic coating is coming off? This just looks a little dirty. How should I clean it? Damp cotton wool? Alcohol wipes?
Having inspected the one I did copy, it is clean.

That's floppy mould right there. Couple of methods - split the jacket and wash off in soapy water, let dry, then re-insert. Alternatively q-tip and isopropanol (don't rub too hard! it's a bit more of an aggressive method!)

Friday 9th: 4pm - Midnight
Saturday 10th: 7am - Midnight
Sunday 11th: 7am - 10pm (not that I expect anybody to stay that late!)

There is no booking in the morning for either room , so BOTH rooms will be available from about 12:00.

I wont be there until about 3pm with coffee and Nibbles , but you all managed perfectly well setting a few tables up last year

Looking forward to a good old fashioned end of year geek fest.

Field Head Pub / Hotel - Markfield , Leics.

Ok so the pub have said I can go up there tonight and set up the tables and deposit snacks and nibbles in the rooms.

I’ll also bring two kettles , tea , coffee / coffeemate.

There will also be two pints of milk to get you started in the morning inside a blue chill bag in the main room.

The pub have said the rooms will be available from just after breakfast so if you are staying there get stuck in and set up.

Please have a look in the stardot post to see what rooms you are in but we’ve had a few not able to make it , so it’s a bit flexible.

I’ll be there about 3pm or so then off about 5ish only to return probably about 8pm for dinner.

If you want an evening meal together tomorrow night the pub have asked if we can get an order and time together by about mid afternoon.

Just ask any of the staff and they’ll help out with menus etc.

Anyway look forward to seeing you all tomorrow.
