Dutch Atomic Techsat on Saturday June 2nd

Post by oss003 »

Hi all,

a new Dutch Atomic Techsat is planned on Saturday June 2nd.
The main focus will be Atom hard- and software but other related hard- and software is also welcome.

The address is
Dorpscentrum De Schakel
Eerdsebaan 1
5482DA Wijbosch

We start about 10:00 and the meeting ends about 17:00u. The entrance is free but I'm asking a contribution of € 5.00 per person for coffee and lunch. Everybody is free to join for diner after the meeting at a restaurant in the neighbourhood. This diner is not included in the contribution

Please answer this topic or send me a PM if you are planning to come so that I know how many sandwiches have to be made ...:)
Confirmed:
  1. oss003 (Kees)
  2. multiwizard (Wim)
  3. roland (Roland)
  4. bprosman (Bram)
  5. leendert (Leendert)
  6. janrinze (Jan Rinze)
  7. -B-(Neil)
  8. (Theo)
  9. (Hennie)
Tentative:
See you on the TechSat!

Greetings,
Kees

That's only a half day :(

Nevertheless count me in. I will enjoy the lunch but unlike previous meetings I wont join the dinner after the meeting.

Good job, as usual =D>

Did you also contact the people that are not (very often) on StarDot but visit our meetings? Otherwise we seem to have only four attendees.

The same weekend there is also an Abug meeting in Hampshire. Robert and I already agreed to try to make a video connection on large beamer screens so we have some kind of international meeting

Ok guys, time for a little writeup.

It wasn't very crowded but that didn't mean that we didn't have a good time. The venue was great and the weather ideal to be in all day. It's always interesting to have a chat with other people and see what they are doing.

Roland brought his green Atom with him this time including his expansion board and a RPi on it. The RPi served as a video board and he showed a coloured test image on it. Also mousecontrol was working so it look promising.

Jan Rinze had a special Atom, a standard case with keyboard and a 16 bits risc CPU. He has written a new OS in assembler to run Atom Basic. Some graphic functions and printing are working ....... very fast. He can also upload a standard Atom into his FPGA board and that also worked great. This way you can create a very, very fast Atom ...... but a lot of work needs to be done. Keep up the good work.

Theo had an 'original' Atom with a 19" rack attached to it. In the rack there were some PCB's for running CPM, 80-columns video, video digitizer and a ROM switch board. At the moment he is working on a new board with a music chip, the AY-3-8910, and a speech synthesizer, the SP0256. He developed a new PCB for it but there are some problems to solve before he can get it working.

Wim repaired his ABM Atom and showed it. He also brought some hardware, books and magazines for those who were interested. He also told me that he had sold some stuff which was stored in his attick so now he has some space again ......... probably to get some new stuff ... :)

I was showing the Atom AGD suite to convert ZX Spectrum games to the Atom. You take a snapshot from a Spectrum AGD game running on an emulator, convert the snapshot to an ASCII AGD file with graphics data and game commands, compile the AGD file to an 6502 assembler source and assemble it to a binary file to be run in Atomulator. At the moment the Atomic engine is finished for about 90% but still needs some tweaking and optimizing so that's why I have to test a lot of games to see if there are still some bugs in it. For now about 40 games are running but need to be tested. There is a site with about 150 AGD games ready to be converted ....... ;)

Neil was also interested to buy an Atom and asked for some info about the Atom. He was amazed about the possibilities and expansions there are for the Atom. I think he got so much information that he needs a few days to think it over before he can make a good choice of what to buy ......... ;)

Hennie, Evert and Sjaak were having a chat with several people and looked at the showed systems. Hopefully they got inspired to do some new projects. I hope everybody had a good time, I did ..... :D Unfortunately, the video chat with ABUG in the UK, didn't work so we have to come over again .... :D

That's it guys about the Dutch Techsat 2018 .........

Greetings
Kees

So nice to see all of you again.
Feels like it was too short to have a chat with everyone.
Hope to see you all again.

I am updating the github pages and hopefully have enough time to do a write up for interested people on the FPGA board and such.

Best regards,
Jan Rinze.

Looks good. Makes me want to pay a visit, although I have not been back since nearly being banned from schiphol airport on a transfer flight 6 years ago.

I hope people were poking Roland to update the design for his Atom board and do another run!

What a day!
I was very impressed with what can be done with an Atom and now, I need one in my life.
The few photos I took are just like the ones already posted and show the machines brought to the venue (to remind me of what I need to buy).

So, if anyone can help me, I am now looking for an Atom (Wim, I hear you have many) and one of Roland's boards to start with (Roland you said you may be able to sort out a board but if not, it may spur you on to update the design. You would have one order from me at least).

Thanks guys for an amazing day, see you next time, hopefully with my own Atom.

Neil.

I had a very goood time as well. Thank you Kees for organizing this meeting again. And yes, I'm thinking about an update of the atom board. Atom 2k18 sounds good, doesn't it? Maybe our next Christmas present [-o<

I'll start a new topic soon....
