Here's one I believe needs adding - The Fallen Eagle. From MP's advert on the Micro User (Oct-84 p52):
Further titles coming shortly: Crown of Mardan (released), The Fallen Eagle ???

Was The Fallen Eagle released under a different name possibly?

Was just going through completed eBay listings and spotted this:
https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/202913005355

Did anyone here win it - or do you recognise the high bidder from the feedback ratings? I know the seller so I've just messaged them to see if they can help locate the whereabouts of the elusive tape.

I remember this game (probably the very same unit) was listed for sale on retrogames.co.uk for several years in the early 2000s but it was priced at £30 - which was crazy money for a Beeb tape back then. I managed to resist for a couple of years, and then when I finally caved in and approached the proprietor to buy it, it had just been sold! #-o

Did A&F release Snarl Up for the bbc? It’s mentioned in The Micro User news p25 Nov-84 as their last game for the beeb due to piracy.

Quick question, is the MIA list up to date? I've recently taken possession of several boxes of software and I'd like to see whether I could contribute missing titles to the community instead of putting them on eBay!
Any news on the software VectorEyes? I've been on tenterhooks for the last 5 weeks or so....

Covid-19 Lockdown has put a dampener on my
ability to retrieve it from the storage unit I put it into shortly before I wrote that message, but I am hoping to sneak a trip there in the next week or two, so hopefully I should have an update soon... ish. Sorry it’s taking so long!

What is the Marble Madness alluded to in this list of games?

Code: Select all

Marble Madness Unknown UtoZ3 Y GUIDE MARBLE DOWN SLOPES, TINY SCREEN

I wonder if it's actually Marble Mania?:

http://bbcmicro.co.uk/game.php?id=3345

That seems to fit the description ("...TINY SCREEN"). Also, I don't think any of the original game programs would have included the reference to Popular Computing Weekly -- I suspect that's been added to the copy on bbcmicro.co.uk by Mick.

Ah, good find, yeah it's probably that.

I was hoping it was some official abandoned prototype with nice Mode 1 scrolling graphics, but never mind...

Might be worth adding The Lair by Utopia Software, though it's a doubtful release:

Please add "Colonists of Procyon" as advertised in issue 9 (July 1984) of Micro Adventurer magazine and "Uranium Factor" by A&F in issue 17 (March 1985).

I was going through a pile of disks that I acquired a while back and found some (mostly educational) games and tools on them. I've had a look on bbcmicro.co.uk and couldn't see them so I was wondering if they were being looked for:
  • TREKKAsoft Adventures (includes Polar Traveller, Desert Trek and Jungle Journey)
  • GSN Educational Software - Pondlife
  • Logotron - Signwriter
  • Southern Rd Infants - Etcha Sketch

I've forwarded the educational titles to Flax Cottage. The TREKKAsoft one is attached.

I couldn't get the original TREKKAsoft disk (TREKKA.SSD) to work due to the way that some of the files are hidden. Because of this, I've also included a version (TREKKA-F.SSD) that I've fixed so that it loads the games okay.

Kind regards,

Francis

Hi,

Regarding one of the "Missing BBC Games" :

"SRS --- (Steam Railway Simulations) --- Mallard"

I have a copy of this, I bought it in 1988 around the time of the 50th anniversary of the Mallard loco setting the steam world speed record.
srs-mallard-bbc-micro.jpg
If I get time over Xmas (kids permitting!) I'll try and create a tape image (what are the best tools for that now?), and turn the manual into a PDF so it can be uploaded to the archive (where should I email it to?)

Does that mean that the archive includes ALL Railway Simulations from DeeKay Systems / SRS / Ashley Greenup ? (I have several other DeeKay tapes too but I think they are all already in the archive).

Have a Good Christmas,

Stuart

If we're talking about archiving Beeb tapes without using an actual Beeb, then in the past I've had success with CSWViewer. I haven't done much Beebless archiving of Beeb tapes beyond that. But I know that other people have had success with utilities with names like "MakeUEF".

You can upload the PDF to this forum. See the Archive Submissions section.

Cool!
I have been looking for this for a good while now.
It was one of the only missing loco titles that I was almost certain would have been released for the beeb.
Fingers crossed it is safely archived [-o<

Excellent! Thanks for offering to dump it!

PDF can just be uploaded to Archive Submissions (may need to zip it first).

I'd say quickest and easiest way to archive it is with MakeUEF. It won't be protected so you could use the original v0.3 release for Windows: http://www.stairwaytohell.com/essential ... indows.zip

Assuming you're using a PC with line-in socket, connect a 3.5mm jack lead from the cassette player's 'ear' socket to the line in socket on the PC, turn the volume up quite loud, drop to a command prompt and enter:

MAKEUEF -o Mallard_B.uef -l s

You may need to experiment with the volume until it picks up the files/data on the tape.

If after excessive fiddling it doesn't pick anything up, try omitting the "-l s" parameter at the end (though I usually find I get much better results with the -l s flag set).

MAKEUEF -o Mallard_B.uef

If you get any data errors just rewind the tape slightly and press play again.

Once it's read all files in successfully, press ESCAPE to save the file.

Hiya

If it's any use, I've made a Google Sheet which automatically searches eBay for games on the list.

https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/ ... sp=sharing

*Most* of the time, the column "Items" will populate with the number of matches from an ebay search generated from the heading at the top of the sheet and the title. It's a little hit and miss when it works and when it doesn't.

However, clicking the arrow will load ebay search - forgive the intrusion of BBC tv programs :)

If someone would like edit access to this, please let me know and I can add you as an editor.

Mark
