Thanks!

Going back even further in this thread, the A&F title "Early Warning" no longer appears in the "Missing" list (or on bbcmicro.co.uk), can anyone say what happened with that one?

Hi,
I removed it from the list 18 months ago as we won the game on ebay - along with the unknown "Doomstar Adventure".
The tapes went to Arcadian but I don't think he ever did anything with them? Or it may have been faulty?
In any case I will add it back to the missing list.

Well that's up to the admins

The previous thread "Record of known releases missing from the archive" sounded a bit long-winded, so this is a new thread.

Thanks Lee :)

If Arcadian is around, as I mentioned in my previous post I got Micro-Aid's Flags working from the WAV of the faulty tape he posted here and I'm more than happy to have a crack at any other such tapes.

A-maaaazing work!

Well done, really pleased to see this preserved, despite its simplicity.

Thanks for putting so much time and effort into generating a working file.

The cassette version of Satan's Challenge should probably go on the MIA list:

http://www.computinghistory.org.uk/det/ ... Challenge/

The disc version might be worth adding to the list too because there's suspected corruption on the disc-image on bbcmicro.co.uk (which came from STH):

I bought a USB "walkman" a few months ago and, inspired by Diminished's brilliant work using Quadbike, decided to connect it up to my PC to create a WAV file of an old C60 games cassette using Goldwave, converted it to a CSW file using CSWViewer then loaded the tape catalogue in B-Em. And lo and behold I found a missing game from PAJSOFT. No such luck getting the actual game itself to load but I have managed to run the loader. Time will tell if the actual game itself can be recovered...

Hi fuzzel,
We must try very hard to rescue this game!
On a hunch, I considered that PAJSoft may be Peter Johnson of Superior Software fame.
In this bio: https://www.mobygames.com/developer/she ... rId,15939/ he mentions writing a light-cycle game which sold 12 copies!
So, I emailed Peter, and he replied to confirm PAJSoft was him!
I have credited him for the other PAJSoft game on bbcmicro.co.uk, http://bbcmicro.co.uk/game.php?id=1431 which Peter thinks may have been an early test for Overdrive which was later released by Superior!

Thanks!
I also corrected a game that we had incorrectly attributed to Peter Johnson.
Peter advised me that he did not write "Ladder Maze" from Superior Software. A quick dig through the listing shows it was by PAUL Johnson

Could I have a look at the CSW file of LiteCycles? It sounds like it is based upon the film Tron.

Happy to oblige. Here are the two CSW files I've created from the WAV files recorded:
EMIC60A.CSW - recorded using Goldwave and a USB Cassette Converter with volume set to 80%.
EMIC60F.CSW - recorded using Audacity and a USB Cassette Converter with volume set to 80%.
Note that the first file produced much better results, I loaded it in B-Em (it's after Cybertron Mission) and there are three files, Lightcycs (3 blocks, loads ok), Lightcyc1 (15 blocks, 2 appear to fail) and Lightcyc2 (4 blocks, looks ok).
I think the first two files are Basic with the third being a data file.
Good luck everyone!
PS I have the original WAV files on Google Drive, if anyone wants the links PM me.

I looked at a WAV file and found the waves don't look balanced around the zero line. It could be the tape but your making things difficult by not using a standard cassette player.

I’m afraid I no longer have one. My beeb’s on the blink too. If someone local to me had the necessary equipment we could be in business.

As mentioned previously I'd sent Diminished a couple of WAV recordings of tapes for him to test his Quadbike program on. Well ok, in the hope that he'd be able to rescue a couple of programs of mine - Bach's Toccata and Fugue in D-minor (written by a schoolfriend) and Atlantis Adventure, written by me with same schoolfriend and submitted to a software house for evaluation (no joy there though). Diminished did a sterling job rescuing Toccata but unfortunately for me discovered that Atlantis was only half there. Anyway, that provided the impetus for me to randomly pick an old tape from a box of beeb stuff in the loft to see what else I might have, ideally a complete copy of Atlantis. As mentioned above what I got instead was a game I'd never heard of (not true, I had once heard of it but you know what I mean). I took the WAV file and used cswviewer to convert it to a CSW file. I'd picked up on the fact that although Beebem is pretty rubbish at loading CSW files (someone's going to disagree with this), B-Em is a whole lot better. Very frustratingly though I could only get the loader program to work (all three blocks of it). The main program of 15 blocks failed to load in several places. The final data file of three blocks appeared to be in one piece but I put that to one side, it being no use without the second file. The next few days became an abject lesson in frustration as I made numerous recordings using Goldwave and also enlisted the help of Diminished to set Quadbike on it. However, he found there was a bleed-through from a recording on the other side of the tape (music) which prevented successful capture of those bad blocks. Looking at the WAV file I also noticed that the peaks and troughs of the wave appeared to be much lower than the original recording. What I'd done for my second recording was to use my dad's old HiFi, an ITT HIFI 8021 cassette deck and I was now concerned that faulty unclean heads had irretrievably damaged the tape. Earlier today I sent Diminished yet another recording, this time in stereo, but he emailed back to say that the recording was blank. Curious, I played one of the earlier failed recordings and that also was silent, although bizarrely about half-way through I could hear my wife talking to my daughter on the phone. So I double-checked Goldwave's settings and it transpired that somehow I'd changed the microphone to an alternaive USB setting which obviously wasn't working. I then rerecorded the tape and this time when loading it in B-Em I discovered more bad blocks but, as luck would have it, they were different to the original ones. So now all I had to do was switch the tapes during loading and the second file, lightcycle2, loaded successfully. Cue pandemonium. Anyway, here's a copy of the game. I've changed the filenames for the disc version due to size limitations and also changed line 4 in LIGHT1 - the original program loaded LIGHT2 at E00 so I've loaded it at &7000 and moved it down. If anyone wants me to create a disc of the original files so a proper UEF tape version can be created then please let me know. Oh, and thanks for the game Peter, I hope it's a nice little early Christmas present for you if you didn't have it already.
EDIT - I've just read the posting by Leenew above which mentioned that Peter Johnson possibly lived in my neck of the woods which is I guess how I came to have a copy of the game, I imagine it circulated at the Washington computer club at The Galleries.
EDIT2 - sorry Lee, it was your post I should have referred to in the above paragraph not Pernod's (changed).

I have two of the missing BBC B Silverlind games - Reversi and Haunted House. I will see if these can be imaged tomorrow.

Cover art and inlays are already on my Everygamegoing site.

Do you have a working copy of Crossword Puzzler, Dave? The download link on EveryGameGoing is broken:

Yes, I have that one in Box 7 of my BBC Micro collection. I'll try and image that one at the same time. I don't think the download for that one has ever been available, not sure how the link managed to appear. If it had ever been available I would have added screenshots of it in action.

These are the two UEF files as well, for the sake of completeness.

I did dig out the Crossword Puzzler cassette. However, there seems to be some issue with it. Unfortunately, although it rewinds and fast forwards, whenever I attempt to play it, it doesn't spool. I have had this issue a few times with other cassettes and often they work with a different tape recorder. Unfortunately this one doesn't work with any of my tape recorders, so it looks like I'll have to either post the original to someone else for him to have a go, or try again some other time when I do have access to a different tape recorder.

you have checked the pressure pad that that's okay as they sometimes cause issues.

Just as an aside, I notice that Haunted House is by Steve Lucas and uses the same engine as Puss In Boots that he sent to A&B Computing at about the same time.
