Hard problems @ ROUGOL / Mon 20th Nov 2017

Post by helpful »

The next meeting of the RISC OS User Group Of London will be:

Hard problems, and why they're important, presented by Dr Colin Wright
Monday 20th November, 7.45pm
The Blue Eyed Maid, upstairs in the restaurant
173 Borough High Street, SE1 1HR

Colin Wright has visited ROUGOL twice before to talk about the RISC OS based radar systems that he produced in his role at Denbridge Marine. Since the end of the Iyonix those systems have mostly moved over to using Linux.

So this time Colin will be talking about something very different - hard problems, and why they're important. This will cover algorithms, mathematical proofs, and problem solving, with emphasis on how they relate to cryptography.

Colin gives many presentations around the country on a variety of subjects, from maths to juggling, which are always both entertaining and educational. So although rather off topic, don't miss out on this chance to join in with what is guaranteed to be a fascinating and fun evening!

Entry is free, food & drink plentiful (but not free), all welcome :-)

Bryan.

Bryan, are you going to start recording these talks and put them up on YouTube? Or possibly stream them live?

I keep missing the good ones because of my health...pretty please :D

Aha. I was already wondering, but that makes it extraordinarily likely it's the same Colin Wright I knew a long, long time ago in an entirely non-Acorn-related context. It's a small world. (-8

Well if someone was to volunteer to do it, maybe. Although we're a bit wary of doing that because we don't want to give more reasons for people not to come along. Without a decent number of physical attendees the meetings would die.

Oi, they are ALL good ones! ;-)

Was that in a galaxy far, far away? :-D

Are you coming along to say hello?

I believe it's both possible to record and live stream to YouTube from any smart phone these days, so no equipment or volunteers required :D

Attendees shouldn't be an issue, the food is too good to pass on! Think of the wider audience you'd pull in, it might even encourage more people to attend and then you'd have to start taking bookings! Alternatively, don't make the videos fully public and mailshot the link to the folk that can't attend due to health or live overseas.

On a similar thread, did the London Show talks get recorded? I'd planned on leaving my son to oversee the Arcade whilst I attended the Video LuNA talk, until a very nice bunch of chaps turned up with several Archimedes and asked if I'd test them...just as the talk was about to start

But some of us live far-far-away, in another Galaxy! :(
