ZOMBIES ATE OUR ROADIES!

Post by aerworuld »

Hey all!

Hope you're well, just wanted to let you know about my latest text-adventure - it's #3 in my British IBM fan-game series on the Electron and it's available as FREEWARE on 3.5" floppy disc on DFS. (If you need ADFS, just ask). All I need folks to do is cover postage, rest is free free free :-)

The game is 'ZOMBIES ATE OUR ROADIES (the British IBM on Trubell Island)' and you are off to a little South American island to catch your favourite band on their World Tour. Unfortunately, you wake up in a zombie apocalypse but must still find your way to the gig ;-)

It's written with the Quill with a nice little BASIC intro. More info at the British IBM site and Acorn Electron Today.

Please let me know if you'd like a disc, or, of course, you could go along and see the band play at the Corner House, Cambridge, this friday (15th) where they will be giving away some floppies!
Disc label - ZAOR!
Disc label - ZAOR!
Artwork done in AMX Art on my Elk.

Best,
Stu.

**EDIT** By popular demand, here is the .ssd image of the game too, for folks that don't have access to a floppy drive.
zaor_DFS.ssd.zip
Floppy (DFS) image of ZAOR!
(19.73 KiB) Downloaded 131 times
There's also now a FLAC audio file of the cassette version on the ZAOR page on AET. UEF conversion will be added when I get a chance ;-)

Good work!

Any chance you could also distribute this in non-physical form, as a .SSD disc-image?

Someone is bound to put an .SSD image out there eventually, but I'm trying to keep it old skooool with a good old fashioned disc. It's free after all, it will only cost folks the price of a couple of stamps to get the floppy.

Even on Stardot, there might be people who would like to play your game but for whom postal delivery of a disc that can only be read with original Beeb/Elk hardware* isn't exactly convenient.

More people might play the game if it was available on .SSD straight away. Just a thought...

:?:

* Or a PC with OmniFlop installed and working -- which is rarer, if anything.

I see your point, and up until now, everything I release has been primarily on ssd with the option of floppy. My worry was that if I put an SSD straight out there for this, no one would bother with the floppy lol.

Okie dokie, I'm headed home for lunch, so I will pop the ssd image up here forthwith ;-)

Mr H, they're on my website for download if folks fancy it :-)
1) Space Grab and 2) the British IBM pub quiz.

They're pretty basic (pun pun) but a bit of fun ;-)

shoot me if i have some questions about the game programming [-X

i am not a player , but i look at things :)

i have downloaded the ssd , and a lot of files there

first of all are files ZOAR (picture) and p.flyer used in any form by the game ?

oke:

we have !boot that runs loader in loader we load picture ZAORCV in mode 4 then chain INST
what is the instuctions in mode 4 ? after that we go to mode 6 and *run BIBM from &2900

people know me as the 1 or two file man

if i make inst in mode 6 then

start adress &2000 ....

&2000+&879(inst)=&2900+&3200(bibm)=&5b00+some machine code till mo.6 it is 1 file

if you want zaorcv screen with sounds and env in a 2 file version.

just asking 8) ,

Kind offer, but I'm pretty happy ;-) I just kinda roll with things the way they work out in my quirky way... If it does what I need it to, I'm happy :-)

Flyer and ZAOR piccy are just on there for posterity, really.

i think that the mega software cartidge is happy with 1 file to load.
allso is you have a dfs real disk there was 31 files max, and a disc back then was expensieve :)

i will see what i can do , if people here what the org , and maybe someone whats the 1 or 2 file version :)

I would prefer it if you didn't release it as an improved/more efficient version of what I've already done; that's the game the way it is and that's how I have released it as a completed version (whether you think it was done in the most organised or efficient way is a different matter). It was just intended as a bit of fun and it's only a small game, I don't think we need to over analyse it.

Of course, if you would like to streamline your own copy of it, please go ahead ;-)

Stuart.

If Stuart doesn't mind(?), duikkie, I'd like a more compact version for the MGC - Although the MGC can load more that one file, as long they are LOAD-ed, it would alleviate work elsewhere :D

The UEF file is a bit odd. It seems to include junk data at the end of each file block, so either my understanding of UEF files is incomplete or BeebEm is doing something strange. I can make a cleaned up version of the UEF if required.
