New Games Index

Post by sydney »

This thread will eventually contain links to the website or forum thread and download for every new game released for the BBC Micro, Electron and Atom.

I've done the 75 new games that I've identified. Please post details of any new games that I've missed and I'll add them to my list.

This is a work in progress and some links may not work, please let me know if you notice any.

Nice list, thank you! We should definitely push Retro Gamer to do a BBC Micro homebrew feature at some point.

Neither released. Hoping that Bomber Blaster may be picked up again after White Light is out the door. Optimistic that one day we'll see Blurp too (Rich?) as I understand the game engine was completed; it was just the level design that Rich wasn't happy with(?).

Also:
Zap - already featured in the main index

Beeb Jack - this is still work-in-progress so doesn't belong on the released list (yet!)

Cyroid-X - I don't think this will ever evolve into a full game (unless we can find someone willing to design 24 screens!). We should probably just put the existing 6-level demo out there (though all of the levels bar one I think are virtually identical to the first set of levels for Repton: The Lost Realms).

Eventureland - Samegame [aka Attic Bug] was released. The Acorn port of Byte Me was 99.9% complete too I believe - we should probably just make it available as-is (with Darren's permission) as it was effectively finished I think.

Rich Tech 2 - this was just a tech demo I believe; pre-cursor to Blurp?

Rocket Attack - I can't remember if James ever finished this, I don't think it was released

The Two Towers - not finished to my knowledge, assume abandoned

Treasure Island - not finished to my knowledge, assume abandoned

White Light - currently in beta testing

The attic bug - see Eventureland/Samegame above

Mazezam 2 - isn't this just part 2 of the original MazezaM (which is included in the original release)

Yeah, Blurp is 90% there, but the remaining level design and balancing sucked the joy out of it. It's just too difficult to play! Every now and then I have another go - I recently tweaked some of the nasties' logic to make it a bit more playable (the jumping fleas for example). But then I find myself wanting to add new features, monster types, and so the cycle of procrastination starts again!

Rich Tech 2 (for lack of a name) was a smooth scrolling demo which I was originally going to use as the basis for Blurp. I posted a zip here containing the original disc image (from a real ADFS disc!), the updated BeebAsm source, and some sample emulator-ready disc images so people could have a look. I was proud of it at the time - it was the first time I'd seen this kind of smooth multidirectional scrolling on the Beeb. But to maintain the frame rate, it needed the design simplifying, so I shelved it :(

Cheers Sarah. They were on the todo list which with any luck I'll be finished by the end of the weekend, Atom ports are already on the list simply because Kees did all the work formatting the entries for me!

Hi sydney!

You should link to the latest version of my game which is attached in the last post of the game thread.
It must be renamed from zip to ssd. Maybe you should rename the file, post it in the game thread and then link to it?
Otherwise someone might try to unzip it! Or make a proper zip file of it which is intended to be unzipped
Sorry for the trouble!

The link to my Tetris game should be tetris.ssd.zip.

The original Stardot thread had an old version in the top post. I've updated it now.

It's also here:
That disc-image, on bbcmicro.co.uk, was broken, but it's now been fixed. But you still need to manually write-enable the .SSD for the game to work.
