It became very quiet on the forums with maybe only a handful of posts and posters a month, at least here on stardot those posts will be read by more people and will hopefully increase the interest in writing games and programming in general.

Ah, just noticed the updated entry for BBCMicro.co.uk above. I'd certainly be uncomfortable taking sole 'credit' for this site bearing in mind how much work others have put in compared to me!! Maybe attribute me as a 'contributor' ??? e.g.

Actually, the 2nd. The first was my site, at

I made my site ca. mid (or perhaps late) 1995 and I put disk images of games and other software, information on how to create diskimages on a PC using anadisk etc. It was aimed towards distributing software, creating diskimages and just anything else about the BBC micro that interested me. Since Robert took care of software distribution and had far more space on his university server, I then went into another direction. I looked in my email archive and in Jan. 1996 he first emailed me, and the following excerpt is telling for the situation then:

I was quite pleased to see that you had made Elite available as a disk
image on your page, as I have not yet been able to find any programs to
run on BeebEm.

Yes, there was some information on the BBC micro out there, emulator makers had brief pages but those were not BBC micro sites. There was nothing like a general site as I started then, and which 'The bbc lives' continued: no BBC micro ROMs (emulators came with instructions on dumping your OS and Basic roms etc. though emailing some people with a plea for the ROMs could work at that time ) and no commercial software. To further give an idea of the situation then: Some time in 1996 I got an email from a lawyer saying I should stop distributing the Acorn OS/Basic ROMs... At that point I thought of a workaround using the freely available 65Host which Darren Salt then programmed after my suggestion. Interesting times
