New Text Adventure?

Post by Yrrah2 »

Just wondering.

I'm planning to write a text Adventure, but I do not know if there is anyone who is interested to play the game.

So are there people who like to play a totally new adventure?

Cheers

Slightly off topic, but I wrote a text adventure years ago for the Amiga entitled The Seach for the Lost Football. It was actually pretty good (at least I thought so) although some of the locations needed the descriptions padded out a bit for atmosphere.

If I could find the original source code for it it could easily be converted for the BBC.

Kind regards,

Francis.

@frutbunn

That was if I could find the original source code. I don't know if I still have it or even the original plans.

In the same vein I wrote an adventure in 1989 called "Farmyard Fun!"

I've a feeling Melchet would be interested in this as well. I think he likes the odd adventure.

There is a big Interactive Fiction community on the internet (IF is the modern term for text adventures). I'm sure there would be plenty of people up for playing it. There are some standard formats for creating adventures - Inform and TADS are the two big ones. I believe Peter Killworth (author of some classic beeb adventures like Philosopher's Quest and the Doom Trilogy) was even working on converting his adventures to inform for that very reason.

If it were me writing, I'd perhaps consider not writing it solely for the beeb, as that would restrict the audience somewhat. Now, if only someone could write an Infom interpreter for the Beeb, we'd have the best of both worlds ... :D

Thanks for all your enthusiasm!

This gives me more fun to create an adventure.

I do not know if I'm going to convert the adventure to these other systems, but I have to find out if I like writing this adventure before converting it.

But First I have to finish the paperwork and the story ;)

Let me know if there are more enthusiasm people around :D

Cheers

I wrote a text adventure called Advent (rather than Adventure cos filenames couldn't be that long) in about 1989. It's all IF, THEN and GOTO and one wrong move usually kills you off, plus it's impossible to solve without looking at the listing as I missed a few clues off the text...

so it's not great but I was only 10 at the time... let me know if anyone would like to have a go just for a laugh :)

I once wrote a text adventure as a freebie giveaway for my diskzine AlchNews. It was only a simple text affair written with PAW but was very well received.

I too would like a look! How's it coming on?

Now on to a shameless plug... :-)

Me & an old school pal's collection of adventures (4 text*, and 1 graphic) is available here:
http://www.stairwaytohell.com/bbc/archi ... ection.zip

And a map of sorts of the graphic one is here: **SPOILER**
http://img78.imageshack.us/img78/466/gottamap9ov.jpg

and a review of them all is here:
http://www.acornelectron.co.uk/eug/revs ... -viki.html

I didn't realise that anyone still really cared for such things... so would love to hear back if anyone has a fiddle with them!

Cheers.

Just to add, this is the place to go for an application which can be used to build Inform interaction fiction text adventures:

http://www.inform-fiction.org/

Looks like they have some neat new apps which should make the process quite simple. As much as I love the beeb, I still think if you're developing a new adventure, this is the way to go ...

Hi All,

Donno how to put this;

Have been working a lot on the adventure, but lack of time made me to hold it. To busy with the theatre group I'm working with and a little son I have now (about 1 year old now)

But a little update will be in order here.
How far am I........

Hmmmm... I have the story (but the plot is not there totally yet)
Have made a 6 pages drawing of all the locations (and a lot of the items)
Some pictures I have to scan and convert it with the conversion tool.

I'm glad you guys are still interested. So I will plan to make some progress inbetween the theatre shows i'm doing.
So I'll try to work harder on it and make it a good one.

Cheers

One of my first game-writing attempts was a text adventure called 'Island of Death'. You had to escape from an island run by devil worshippers. It was utter pants.

I tried something with it, but did not worked as i expected.
So fort me it's going to be a combination of ictures and txt made with Quill. (a lot is possible with this application)

Yup, i did. I wrote 4 different games, but only managed graphics with one. you get 15k or so to play with in total. The results are mentioned in a post above - 'The Viking Collection' ... GGH got me an A in GCSE computer studies :-)

I never used Quill, or anything else, but i quite got the hang of the GAC. The hardest part was thinking of the idea, which i'm sure is a common problem for bedroom game authors everywhere!
But i'm sure that all GAC games might have a similar feel, that's why i tried to get a bit fancy with 'Party!' - there's only a few locations, but i attempted to inlclude interaction with other characters. ISTR it was semi-successful, but it's 20 years ago now i since looked at it. (Apart from changing the name of the heroine, every time i got a new crush!!)

if anyone has a play i'd love some feedback!

Koen - how's yours coming on? I'd like a go when you finish it - i had a play with Countdown to Doom a wee while back but got completed fustrated by the illogical mapping in it.

Well here i'm busy at the moment finding a good plot for one, the one I had was to easy. (the hours of thinking before programming  )
And also I'm busy trying to find out if I can make it electron and BBC compatible (just because I had an electron and never a BBC)
But because of the size and the mode I'm going to use,I think it's going to be BBC for now.

So busy again here :D

Cheers
