Server Updates

Post by danielj »

Just to forewarn - I'm going to kick the server over with some OS updates a bit later. The forums will probably go up and down a couple of times. If you're writing a big post I'd recommend doing writing it in notepad ready to cut and paste in just in case you get caught by a reboot.

Update ongoing to the server-side software. Hold on to your underpants and make sure you save any big posts in a text file...

You may notice some issues tomorrow (like stardot being inaccessible), as the forum software gets brought kicking and screaming up to date. If it doesn't work, it wasn't us. If you're contemplating a big post, best to write it in a text editor first, then C&P it back across...

We've been a bit bouncy today - the server's being updated to the latest version of FreeBSD (as the version we were running was no longer going to be supported) - the upshot of this is we won't have to do anything for years to come :)

There will be another moment of panic as we attempt to upgrade to version 3.2.2 of the messageboard, but I'm not sure when the bravery will kick in to attempt that... I'll give some warning though!

https is now enabled - you can use both http and https though - if you want encrypted connections, use https://stardot.org.uk/forums :)

I'll change the main page to point to the right place in a bit :)

I've set up a cron job to keep the certificate updated, I don't know if it'll work yet - I'm assuming it will! :D - We'll find out in 90 days :D
